June 30 will be a big day for convicted felon George Kline. In the morning, a federal judge will reconsider the 78-month sentence Kline received in April 2002 for insider trading and other violations of securities law.
In the afternoon, Kline will be one of five prominent white-collar criminals appearing on a program sponsored by the University of St. Thomas' law school and center for ethical business cultures.
The program, entitled White Collar Crime and Personal Responsibility, represents an unusual collaboration between St. Thomas and the U.S. Attorney's office in Minneapolis. In some cases, prosecutors approached each of the men they'd helped convict and invited them to speak.
Neither Kline nor any of the other participants will be paid for their appearances.
"The fact that they're coming clean with their stories fits well with our mission of integrating faith and reason in the search for truth," said Tim Busse, a spokesman for the law school.
