I can sahre with you that this book has had an impact in my area. I live in the GTA ( greater Toronto area) and I have watched as pastors have brought Ricks teachings into their congregations and the Churches have caught fire (revival).

My church will be going through Rick's program beginning Jan 04. My brother-in-law ( who has his own church , ICC ) has just come back from seminars down @ saddleback and his ministry team is very charged up about the possibilities of life transformation.

Let me also steer you towards another book that is a MUST read for any market participant.

God Wants You To Be Rich by Paul Zane Pilzer... it will present you with a fresh perspective on our Economic realities. I had a Pastor approach me at a houuse warming the other day to share with me that he has been reading this book and is very pleased with the teachings. He told me that a friend had mentioned to him that I had read the book. The book seems to have been used by Dr A R Bernard of NYC in some of his teachings to the members of the City Harvest Church. if you ever ghet the chance to hear one of Bernrds tapes or to see him speak don't miss the chance! Dr Bernard used to be with Citibank... so he knows a thing or two about finance : - )

In His service

AB, the same is happening here in my area, the churches are becoming energized. Are we all starting to wake up at the same time? I also will be looking for the book..God Wants You To Be Rich by Paul Zane Pilzer.

Many Thanks and God Bless

well it starts with surrender.... can you submit?

Phiolosophy has been moving away from a God centered discipline for quite some time.

Nietzsche wrote that God is dead.... and from there we have moved down to this century and the writing of Sarte and his existentialism, Rand and her philosophy of self determination.

America is full of rugged individualists... we see that as evidenced by the advertising world... eg, the Marlboro Man.

We live in era of the pleasure principle... if it feels good do it.

I encourage you to read Dietrich Bonhoeffer... The Cost Of Discipleship...

How do we accomplish our goal on the every day level?

Well it starts with being intentional set out each day with the concious thought that you are here on this earth to act a s a faithful servant to God and your fellow Man.

If you start by doing the very smallest of things .... like not responding back in anger to the person who has wronged you or maybe going out of your way to place somebody elses needs ahead of your own self centered wants or desires.... slowly but surely change will manifest itself in your life.

each and every day I fail at this. each and every day I have small victories of serving over selfishness... but truly each day I come far short of the Ideal.

seek out people who live a God centered life and model them. This is a big help. It gives you an example of life well spent and truly enriches your own life.

I can tell you that 3 years ago when I became " born anew" my existence has changed tremendously.... life is so much sweeter since I began my walk in Christ. on't get me wrong it is no less challenging and in fact serving often means my time has to be given to others when sometimes I just want to be alone.

I suggest also that you connect in some fashion with people of faith.. through Bible study groups or most definetly in a Church setting.

Will it be easy NO. will it be worth it YES.

Stormy knows what I am talking about and I hope that one day you may come to walk in Christ as well.

May He bless you all of your days

This is the first step and usually the hardest, it was for me. We just can't seem to give up "control" of our lives when in fact we never really had it.

Paul, your post was terrific and I'm glad that you took the time to share.

Thank You and may His light always shine upon you,

"our generation has been robbed of Eternity"-- Ravi Zacharias

Our children are not being taught that they are children of God and that there is more to life than the here and now.

Our children are being taught that they control their own destiny that they can become anything they want. they are taught : "just do it ".. " if it feels good do it"... " go for it"

You know no matter how I might try I will never become the heavyweight boxing champion or an Olympic champion. A mark of spiritual maturity is the ability to defer gratification. can you? It is one of my biggest struggles. Why can't I have it now, I deserve it I work hard I am a good person. if we think in terms of eternity then deferred gratification becomes understandable ... if we live for the moment then only a moron would wait until tomorrow for something you can have today! I amnot saying we must deny ourselves and live in camel hair shirts , I am saying that maybe that 50 inch TV might not really be a need while helping the underprivileged might constitute a lasting benefit.

We do a tremendous disservice to our children by not teaching them that God made each of us into unique individuals with special talents and gifts that are uniquely our own.

If we begin to teach our children that there is an Eternity and that they are here now to discover there gifts and to serve the Lord by making use of their gifts we may begin to transform lives.

Do you see these reality TV shows where the kids are made over to become their favourite Rock stars ( Idolatry). Or maybe the shows where they undergo cosmetic suregery to make themselves into somethiong other than themselves?

If we teach our Children about Eternity it will give them a sense of their own essence. If we teach Children that they need to be something , anything but what they intrinsically are, we will continue to raise up kids that are dysfunctional.

Many on this site are Not Christians and will challenge me on my beliefs. that is fine my CEO faced the same challenges during his short life on Earth.

Peter Drucker came to Christiantiy late in life and he called it " The best deal out there"

Einstein.... he too came to know the Lord and his famous quote is " God does not play dice with the Universe"

These are a couple quick examples of people who are profound thinkers and were able to recognize the invisble hand that orchestrates all that is.

Our essence lies in Eternity .... teach your children this truth if you dare... live this truth if you have the courage... and encourage others on your walk

"what you think about Eternity will determine what you think about your destiny"-- Dr A. R. Bernard

Nice post Dan, thank you.

My Brother-in -law and his ministry team are down in Virgina this week for a Rick Warren conference. I am looking forward to one day attending myself.

the pastor today talked abot friendship. He said there are two types of friendship "bonding' and "bridging"

Bonding occurs amongst people who are more or less the same. Many of us form close boinds with our neighbors or with colleagues we are very similar and share many values.

Bridging occurs between people who are very different. Jesus is the greatest "bridger" of them all. The message of the gospel is one of inclusion not exclusion. Jesus asks us to reach out across economic/ ethnic/religious/social differences and love our neighbour just as he loves each of us. Man this is hard to do! How can we do it?

Well start small. Each day win a small victory. It could be along the lines of showing love to someone you loathe. It could be saying hello to a person who is a social outcast. It could be as simple as listening to a viewpoint that you don't share and allowing the person the right to express themselves.

If we become bridgers in society we will break down walls/barriers that are stopping the world from being a loving community. God planned us to live in a community. He commands us to love each other as he loves us. Will you be a bridger?

Be the light that shines into the darkness

God Bless

Stormy, This is so ironic. My favorite book at the moment is "The Porpoise Driven Life". It's about animism, deep ecology, living in harmony with nature. Jesus gives it a thumbs up. wink2.gif

Hi Dan,

I had a chance to attend the East 91 st street church in Carmel Indiana on Sunday and as always the service was awesome.

I was looking through the literature at the welcome center and stumbled across an advertisement for Ravi Zacharias speaking in Alexandria,IN...... unfortunately it was for Friday the 10th, schucks.

Hopefully Ravi will be coming to Toronto in the near future and I can catch him up here.

Hi Dan,

I have read that book ..... borrowed it from the Church offices here.

I have to go to Indy 2-3 times a year on biz and I always look forwrd to going to Church there. Right after the service we go to the adult Sunday school. It is something that I hope to be involved in with My Home Church.

I thought Threadbare was winding you up..... thx for taking the time to look up the book on the web....

Let my people think.... that is the name of Ravi's radio show and it appeals to me greatly.... Ravi has a wonderful breadth of knowledge and is well travelled. He has many stories of chats he has had with famous and not so famous people that he usus to illustrate his messages. He truly is a gifted speaker/writer it is a joy that I listen to his message as we drive to church and then get to hear our own pastors speak.

Amen and God Bless

Paul
