Thanks HT.Enjoyed that trailer. The film might actually get me to the cinema for the first time in 27 Years!

Isn't June 25/26th around the date of close passage of the cosmic snowball,
referred to on Ure's site.

May you live in interesting times. cool.gif

I find it interesting that in the criticism of Michael Moore, nobody mentions
how he went to K-Mart headquarters here in MI with some victims crippled by
the Columbine shooting and via their sit-in, they successfully got KM to stop selling over the counter bullets.

I realise that crit of Michael Moore was written last year, but it is possible that a smear campaign has already started, ahead of the release of his film(now that it has a release date in the US).

Netters wil be quietly ushered in the "right" direction to pre-emptively soften the rage that they may feel after seeing the film.

this is an easy mark for Moore. He shouldn't have to resort to any left-of-center demagoguery whatsoever. Bush has done acres beyond enough to hang himself.

Frankly I seldom understand any of my comments either. But don't you think Guantanamo is just going to waste. Shouldn't we make a deal with Fidel Castro so we can expand Guantanamo. It would be another sweet job for Halliburton. It's just a great location that's all. And you know what they say in real estate. So let's get with it. We know what happened with the war on drugs. We spend more and more and the drug problem gets worse and worse. But when skeptical people point out that after spending multiple billions of tax dollars the problems worse, they are told, how much worse it would have been if that money were not spent. The same goes for the war on terror. It's kind of like the war on drugs on drugs. Steroid drugs that is. The war on drugs has successfully managed to demolish the lives of millions of people. Anyone speaking up against the war on drugs is assumed to be a subversive and better keep their nose unusually clean. Likewise anyone speaking up against the war on terror is likely to be very suspect. And that brings us back to Guantanamo. Again it's just a great place. Such pleasant weather, such nice neighbors. Away from the beaten path. Secluded. The kind of "special prison" this administration can really make use of.

Film Industry Gives Controversial Iraq Film Ovation
http://au.news.yahoo.com/040609/11/pdkh.html

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (Reuters) - Director Michael Moore's controversial anti-Iraq war film "Fahrenheit 9/11" won a standing ovation on Tuesday night from an audience of film industry professionals attending its West Coast debut at Academy Award headquarters.

After an audience of more than 600 people in the theater of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences cheered, whistled and laughed their way through the two-hour film, they jumped to their feet to give Moore a standing ovation as he took the stage.

Clearly buoyed by the reception, Moore, whose film is scathingly critical and mocking of President Bush, declared: "There has been a shift in this country. ... The average American is finally beginning to figure it out. We were duped (into invading Iraq)."

"I hope this country will be back in our hands in a short period of time," he added.

Republicans have denounced the film as unfair.

peak oil may delay that indefinitely. the 'drug threat' is too concentrated in central american jungles to be of maximum use. terrorists, on the other hand, could be running camps anywhere, especially in reasonable proximity to an oil field or a proposed pipeline.

New York Daily News
'Fahrenheit' generating heat
By JOE NEUMAIER
DAILY NEWS FEATURE WRITER
Tuesday, June 15th, 2004

Things are heating up for Michael Moore's once-blackballed, now red-hot documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11."

The controversy-courting filmmaker's latest work - an examination of the Bush administration and the Iraq war deemed too politically volatile for Disney and its Miramax subsidiary - is set to become the hottest non-studio movie since "The Passion of the Christ."

Its new distributors, Lions Gate and IFC Films, plan to open the movie in as many as 1,000 theaters nationwide, four times the exposure of Moore's 2002 Oscar winner, "Bowling for Columbine."

"Fahrenheit 9/11" opens next Tuesday in Los Angeles and June 25 in New York. A premiere last night brought a star-filled crowd to Manhattan's Ziegfeld Theater.

A Web site - http://www.f911tix.com - has links to advance tickets and theater information.

Fox News praises Moore's F911 and Booker Elementary Footage

Update: Tom Tomorrow about F911: "...It covers a lot of ground that the media have been too cowardly to cover for the past three years..."

FOX : "...The most indelible is Bush's reaction to hearing on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, that the first plane had crashed into the World Trade Center.
Bush was reading to a grade-school class in Florida at that moment. Instead of jumping up and leaving, he instead sat in front of the class, with an unfortunate look of confusion, for nearly 11 minutes..."

There has recently appeared a Web site calling itself "Move America Forward" -- which in turn is being promoted by the right-wing Web site NewsMax -- that is dedicated to shutting down showings of Fahrenheit 9/11, at least in part by urging the public to contact theater owners directly. The result, according to What Really Happened, is that some of these owners "are reporting receiving death threats."

For a while, I ignored this stupid anti-Moore site. Sometimes, writing about something just gives it a higher profile.
But other times, it's necessary to fight fire with fire.

RM+R and Move America Forward
I thought I'd try to talk to the people at Russo Marsh + Rogers. So I call them up and ask to speak with their media representative to ask a couple questions about the firm, and I was told to leave my information and expect a callback.
[…]
Guiney had also said that the original purpose of the organization was to support the troops in America's war on terror. She said that Moore was attacking the troops and their morale, and when asked to cite examples, one thing she mentioned was his stated goal of helping to defeat George W. Bush. In response to the obvious question of why that was synonymous with attacking the troops, she said, "He's our Commander in Chief. It's his policies in place [and we] have to support those policies."

9/11 ACTION ALERT: Join the Fahrenhiet 9/11 Movie
Theater Leafleting Campaign!

Dear 9/11 truth activists and concerned citizens,

Michael Moore's new documentary, Fahrenheit 9/11, is
set to be released next week in theaters across the
country. This is an historic opportunity to educate the
masses of people about the unanswered questions and
unexplained facts surrounding 9/11, and to motivate
thousands to get involved in the 9/11 truth movement.

Please join the International Fahrenheit 9/11 campaign
at:
http://www.septembereleventh.org/alerts/index.php

1) DOWNLOAD various visually striking flyers to print
and copy so that you can leaflet the crowd next weekend
when the movie opens on June 25th.

2) ORGANIZE friends and co-workers in your community to
help, so you can leaflet multiple theaters on opening
night. (On the main campaign page you will find a link
to a clickable map where you can find all the theaters
in your area where the film is playing.)

3) SPREAD THE WORD of this historic campaign. Pass this
email on to all you know. Post it on bulletin boards,
chat rooms, discussion groups, etc. If you have a
website, post a link to the campaign on your home page.
(A cool banner is available on the main campaign page.)

Take note also that Michael Moore has listed
911Truth.org on the home page of his website under the
"MUST-READ" section, and has stated that he plans to
hold special screenings of the film to raise money for
various 9/11 families' efforts. Numerous peace and
justice groups, including the National Green Party,
have endorsed this campaign, and plan to organize their
members to participate.

I wonder on what date our beloved Plutocracy switches it back to drugs?

I'm conviced that they will stick with terrorism for now. This is the real big bucks money-maker for the military-industrial complex and all expenditure of tax dollars can be cloaked in secrecy with no accountablity. With terrorism everything can be classified under "National Security".

I'm sure that the real money-making posibilties for the War on Drugs must have hit a bit of a brick wall when they forced some counties to make that war self-financing,whereby the local drugs squad had to rely on confiscating the alleged criminal's assets in order to fund itself. That is all so petty whilst the "Big T" threat has the whole population scared and reliant on their saviour-da gubmint-to provide them with protection.

The war on drugs was probably just a little stop-gap measure in the 1990's to keep some cash flowing into the Mil/Ind complex's coffers(build lots of prisons). But the boys in the weapons industries must have been having a hard time of it during the Clinton years. All that profit that was so easily gleaned from the taxpayer during the Cold War was evaporating fast and the pluto's realised that the only way forward(back to the good old days 1950-1990) was to create the new super threat
to "life-as-we-know-it-and-are-not-going-to-be-deprived-of-in-a-hurry".

"That enemy" also must have the ability to indiscriminately kill thousands at a stroke and in order to protect the citizenry against such vile threats only the government can be trusted to fight it on your behalf using your money. The essential element is generalized permanent fear.

I think that it was some adverising guru that once said "Once you have them by the testicles, their hearts and minds(and wallets) will soon follow"

My addition of "wallets".

Michael Moore Is Ready for His Close-Up

NYTimes - June 20, 2004

By PHILIP SHENON

HOLLYWOOD, Calif.

MICHAEL MOORE is not coy about his hopes for "Fahrenheit 9/11," his blistering documentary attack on President Bush and the war in Iraq. He wants it to be remembered as the first big-audience, election-year film that helped unseat a president.

"And it's not just a hope," the Oscar-winning filmmaker said in a phone interview last week, describing focus groups in Michigan in April at which, after seeing the movie, previously undecided voters expressed eagerness to defeat Mr. Bush. "We found that if you entered the theater on the fence, you fell off it somewhere during those two hours," he said. "It ignites a fire in people who had given up."

The movie's indictment of the president is nothing if not sprawling. Mr. Moore suggests that Mr. Bush and his administration jeopardized national security in an effort to placate Bush family cronies in Saudi Arabia, that the White House helped members of Mr. bin Laden's family to flee the United States after Sept. 11 and that the administration manipulated terrorism alert levels in order to scare Americans into supporting the invasion of Iraq.

Maxxi Miser

LESS IS MOORE

"Fahrenheit 9/11," which opens Wednesday on hundreds of screens - a first for a documentary - skewers President Bush, whom Moore depicts as clueless and more interested in cozying up to former business associates in the Saudi royal family and pursuing a personal vendetta in Iraq than responding to the 9/11 attacks.

Moore has generated reams of publicity for the film by attacking the Walt Disney Co., which forced its Miramax subsidiary to sell off the rights to "Fahrenheit 9/11" to another distributor because Disney was uncomfortable with the political content.

Maxxi Miser

Bowling at Bush

Take the scene in "Fahrenheit 9/11" in which campaigning Texas Gov. George Bush advises Moore dismissively, "Behave yourself, will you? Go find real work."

Bush may now wish he had taken Moore seriously. In his no-holds-barred look at the Bush presidency, the filmmaker brands it illegitimate from the beginning.

"Fahrenheit 9/11" begins with the "first act of immorality," Moore says, alluding to the contested 2000 election, "because it all rots from there. If you allow someone to steal your White House, what else will they do?

"And thus begins the decline from that moment in Florida to everything else," he adds, "from the phony response to 9/11, to the phony war on terror, to the phony reasons to going into Iraq: lie after lie after lie to manipulate the people."

mjkst27
Moore's movie could be the straw that breaks the camel's back and leads to a new American civil war. Have you seen the county-by-county vote count map from the 2000 election? Total polarization.

In assailing the president's war, Michael Moore stokes the facts to make his point

The unmaking of the president:

Scathing examination of George W. Bush's ties to the bin Laden family, the agenda behind the Iraq war, the dubious handling of 9/11 and, subtextually, November's election.

Michael Moore may be prevented from advertising his controversial new movie, “Fahrenheit 9/11,” on television or radio after July 30 if the Federal Election Commission (FEC) today accepts the legal advice of its general counsel.

In a draft advisory opinion placed on the FEC’s agenda for today’s meeting, the agency’s general counsel states that political documentary filmmakers may not air television or radio ads referring to federal candidates within 30 days of a primary election or 60 days of a general election.

The opinion is generated under the new McCain-Feingold campaign-finance law, which prohibits corporate-funded ads that identify a federal candidate before a primary or general election.

Here we go. It is not just Michael Moore who may be prohibited from advertising his film. You as an individual, as well as any interest groups you belong to, are prohibited from publishing "issue ads" or comments about candidates during these 30 and 60-day periods. Meanwhile, the politicians (publicly funded, in the case of presidential candidates) and Big Media are free to monopolize the public debate, with the citizenry silenced and muffled.

First Amendment? Free speech? What a friggin' joke. The Supreme Court has already reviewed the McShame-Slimegold First Amendment Repeal Act and sees no evil.

What the hell, they've already repealed the rest of the Bill of Rights. May as well burn the tattered stub of it too ...

If Farenheit 911 is considered a political promo for the democratic party, Mel Gibson's Jesus Chainsaw Massacre should qualify as a promo for the administration. I mean, Shrub and his followers seem to think he's God's chosen for this generation.

Now you know why the Big Media love John McShame, and promote him as Kerry's running mate.

Saw that article just an hour ago, MH. This is too perfect.

The same *ahem* gentlemen who tried to keep F911 from being shown in theatres, now that effort has blown back on them… now are attempting to suppress it with this legal challenge. Smells like a slap suit to me- but evidently it would affect only the corporate-paid advertising on TV and radio. Seems like an ad could dodge the restriction by presenting a blank TV screen with Moore’s voice-over: “Hey folks, check out my film, F911. You’ve heard about, right? Unfortunately, I can’t tell you what its about, thanks to these fine folks…” Or I could put my own scribbled ads in any public place. For that matter, a candidate could plug the film, were they so bold. cool.gif
These ham-handed efforts at suppression will only generate more free publicity, plus spotlight the operative mind-set Haven’t learned a thing from O’Reilly’s dust-up with Franken over his book’s title.

from the article:
The film’s distributor, Lions Gate Films, an incorporated organization, would almost certainly pay for its broadcast promotions.

David Bossie, the president of Citizens United, plans to allege that “Fahrenheit 9/11” violates federal election law, arguing that “Moore has publicly indicated his goal is to impact this election season.”

London Daily Mail review of The New Pearl Harbor

by Sue Reid

At the Cannes Film Festival last week, a predominantly
American audience gave maverick film director Michael
Moore a standing ovation for his controversial film,
Fahrenheit 9/11. The movie, which won the coveted Palme
D'Or, is a blistering critique of the Bush
administration's motives for the "war on terror," and
even goes so far as to suggest that the Twin Tower
atrocities provided a convenient mandate for America to
invade Iraq.

Reaction to the film is one more sign of the growing
cynicism over the President's handling of the
catastrophic events of 9/11. Yet the questions that
Moore's movie pose scratch only the surface. Now, an
explosive book on the happenings of 9/11, which raises
even more controversial issues, is about to be
published. It will be damned in some quarters as
nothing other than the irresponsible ramblings of
conspiracy theorists or the wild rantings of anti-war
activists. Much of what it says has been criticised, and
flatly denied, by the White House and America's
intelligence services.

Moore goes after Bush and reflects on the toll of the war in Iraq

Michael Moore talks with Congressman John Tanner on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. in a scene from his new film "Fahrenheit 9/11."

Thank You, Michael Moore

Those Americans who believed what their President told them because they saw it on the TV will, after less than two hours in their local theater, look at both their television and their President with doubt and loathing when they walk from the darkness into the bright light of day. There are millions of Americans who believed what they were told - about 9/11, about Iraq, about George W. Bush himself - who will come into that bright light with the realization that they have been lied to.

In our more "refined" circles Michael Moore may be a sort of hero but if you want a walk on the "Redneck-Moron" wildside go to Moronville net at yafro.com.A site for photo posters(as in share your photo's with the world).

Almost entirely composed of wankers and pornographers, its the Net equivalent of
"everyone can be famous for 15 minutes through the magic medium of tv" except ,of course, the time span has been reduced to 5 seconds(if you're lucky). And it would seem more like "your genitals can be famous for 5 seconds"!

The morons there are now sick of a**holes having a go at the prez. They revel in cartoon like montages of Michael Moore who is described as a fat white bastard liar
whilst devouring the Capitol like King Kong!THEY really hate criticism of the status quo and a few are quite explicit in their solutions for the Eye-rak problem--usually doesn't get much more creative than "nuke the ragheads and take the oil".
Really,I suppose they are to be pitied and I hope that the percentage of Americans
holding those views is not too high, otherwise society is truly DOOMED.

On another and more serious note,I've linked something on PruBear I saw tonight.
The Internet and chat rooms are the preferred medium of AlQ and the terrorists.
OMG,this is frightening--fascist dictatorship looms ever closer.

Fahrenheit 9/11

The movie will affect both political and financial landscape.

"In New York City, managers at Lincoln Plaza movie theater reported that Fahrenheit 9/11's Wednesday showing broke the house record set by Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon for the biggest one-day draw, with $30,000. The movie also took in $43,000 the same day at the Loews Village 7 theater, surpassing the tally for the best single-day record set by 1997's Men in Black."

"As far as my own personal standing goes, my job is to do my job. I'm going to do it the way I think is necessary. I'm going to set a vision. I will lead, and we'll just let the chips fall where they may."

"Friday grosses for "Fahrenheit 9/11" ran about $1.5 million ahead of its closest competitor, the Wayans brothers comedy "White Chicks." The performance of "Fahrenheit 9/11" was even more remarkable considering it played in just 868 theaters, fewer than a third the number for "White Chicks.""

My wife and I just saw the movie and applauded when it was over. It was powerful, moving, and informative. We were both born and raised in Texas and now live in San Francisco. Based on my experiences here in crazy town and growing up in a conservative military family in San Antonio, I can understand all sides of this situation with respect to the polarization of public opinion. I personally resist labels like Democrat or liberal, yet I firmly believe ths movie is an important liberal POV that everyone should see and hear. Mr. Moore does rely heavily on partisan opinions and heart-wrenching scenes of suffering, but his message does transcend partisan politics. It's about truth. I especially appreciate how he is respectful of the military and their families. The real challenge will be to get my parents to go see it. I urge you to make the same effort with your families.

thanks Bud Fox.

IF YOU HAVENT SEEN THE MOVIE, STOP READING HERE!

mediocre movie. nothing really new. i think there's some real smoke between the saudi-carlyle group-US govt-bin ladin family. i would have rather spent 1/2-hr more on that than the time spent following the grieving mother around. ive liked his other movies, but i didnt care for this one. the others were more cutting in their approach, which was less crude...

maybe someone can explain the recruiter scenes? is the inference that bush is destroying flint, MI so that he can get more inductees? i was bamboozled by a recruiter at 18 (actually 17); that's a long story, but it wasnt the president's fault.

i did like the "patriot act victims". thats the style i like -

it was watchable, but i doubt ill rent it when it comes out in video and i couldnt recommend it.

Maxxi:I noticed in your link that the Carlyle group has now expanded it's sphere of interest to Loews Cineplex group.Obviously the military/industrial complex is not satisfied with its present hefty percentage of media control!

The Pentagon already has an office in Hollywood to "help" film-makers presenting the case for military heroism in getting the necessary logistics sorted. They will provide (for example) the latest military hardware and the operating crews such as pilots etc for very reasonable rates. And if you're Oliver Stone you will be told to eff off.Dutch tv documentary on this subject a few months ago.

Controversial film opens to public in Visalia
http://www.tulareadvanceregister.com/news/...ews/726101.html

Visalia resident Mike Lo-rah went to a 2 p.m. screening. Lorah, 28, said he considers himself a conservative Republican but the film has convinced him not to vote for President Bush.

"I'd have to say that I agree with the message that was made in the film, even with me being a Republican," Lorah said. "This would probably be the first time I don't vote for a Republican, but I don't think John Kerry's any better."

In Ray Bradbury's futuristic "Fahrenheit 451," Americans drive too fast, watch too much television on wall-size screens and walk around with radios attached to their heads. Hmmm. Among the things Bradbury wrote that haven't materialized since the book was published in 1953 are firefighters who don't stop fires but set them. To burn books.

We haven't started book burnings yet, but for anyone who's interested, the temperature at which they ignite is 451 degrees; the number we call in emergencies is 911. If Bradbury's "Fahrenheit" doesn't make you nervous, Michael Moore's just might.

I saw a survey where everyone on the fence
were determined to get Bush out of the White
