Liberals under seige-BIG BROTHER era starts before the election!!!!
1.Radio Free Silver! - the sole hour of liberal programming amidst a slew of right-wing talk on KNFT in Silver City, New Mexico - was forced off the air when advertisers threatened to pull their spots from all of the station's programming if the show continued to be aired. AND
2.-yesterday morning at 9:20 in Santa Cruz, California, two dozen armed federal agents with automatic weapons and riot gear raided pirate radio station Radio Free Santa Cruz. The station had just finished airing its regular broadcast of Democracy Now! when the agents arrived on the scene. Moments after the initial raid, 5 agents from the Federal Communications Commission arrived on the scene.
They located the transmitter and seized all of the station's broadcast equipment, including the antenna. More than 50 local residents showed up on the scene to protest the shut-down of the independent radio station. Free Radio Santa Cruz has been on the air, operating without a license for nearly 10 years and has never been raided before yesterday. Despite its unlicensed status, the station recently won a resolution of support from the Santa Cruz City Council.
3.-same thing in Knoxville, Tennessee, with the F.C.C. moving in on, raiding KFAR. Ironically enough, KFAR stands for First Amendment Radio. So, this is the second raid in just about one or two weeks.

Bunch of liberal hippies down there in Santa Cruse anyway. Why the hell can’t they just go out and get a license like the rest of us? What makes them so special besides the fact that most of them are supported by rich parents that made their money by exploiting the capitalist system. Get a freaking hair cut you hippies, then get a job. Or just keep smoking that green bud and complaining when the fed raid your place.
Yes we are supposed to believe. In George we trust.
Shunning Reality in George Bush's Radical WorldAnd, we’re supposed to believe that, of all the world leaders who would like to harm us if given a chance (and there are many) the one that we needed to attack just happened to be the only one whose massive oil reserves are most easily exploited by friends and former partners of Bush and Cheney.
YES we are.

Merrill, I used to live in the Seattle area. I met a woman who was trying to get a local licensed radio station going. We got talking about ClearChannel's domination of the airwaves and I mentioned that what alternative radio had to do was get organized and fight hard and dirty, if need be, because there was a fascist takeover happening. She just looked a little perplexed and said she wouldn't stoop to that level and would rather win hearts and minds through local acts of charity, blah blah blah. People who are stuck at the local level, politically speaking are just annoying little obstacles, easily bulldozed under by the fascist machinery. Gentle people holding up little wilted bouquets, fraught with meaning, to stop the military entertainment complex. It simply doesn't work. The truth is some people are constitutionally unable to scrap.
If piracy is the only way to scrap with the PTB, then so be it. Though real piracy, like rounding up the board of directors of Clear channel and making them walk the plank would be much sweeter.

A "blast from the past" ...
| QUOTE |
KPFT was founded by journalist Larry Lee who convinced Pacifica to establish a listener-supported station in Houston. Lee felt it was important for the Houston community to have an alternative voice to standard radio fare and, pursuant to this vision, KPFT first took to the airwaves in March 1970.
Two months later, however, the KPFT transmitter station was bombed and was off the air until repairs were made. A few months after returning to the air - on October 6, 1970 the transmitter was bombed again. And two weeks later, KPFT was back on the air - again!
After months of inactivity by federal and local authorities, Pacifica began a media campaign that resulted in the arrest of a Ku Klux Klansman in connection with the bombing. He was convicted and imprisoned in 1971. In 1981, the Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan admitted that his greatest feat "was engineering the bombing of a left-wing radio station." By this time, the statute of limitations had expired and the original bomber had already served his time in prison. |
