It was a spectacular rise off the 460 area support back in November where we retested a bigger support and the cause behind it pushed us up to the 540 area. We ended Decmeber mid-range between confluence support and the top. The danger point here is hovering 1-5 points in this mid-range area and retesting the supply that came in. The reaction off confluence in the 490 area was good. But now we need to see which way it goes for retesting..

We're on higher ground.. for sure and so are many of the gold stocks as they broke out and retested support.. I can't think of a better way to start the year.

Thanks for joining us and Happy New Year.. and a prosperous one too.

I don't see anything wrong with doing DD over the long weekend. This is a once in a life time opportunity to acquired mining stocks and make some real dough.

The way I understand it is that the already large producers need to keep reserves at certain levels to mine in the future so that they may continue supporting their stock price. This even if they have to acquire all the jrs they can and their reserves to satisfy the buyer's future production quotas. Just not that much gold in the ground to begin with. The banks will probably be the big winners here.

Agree, banks always seem to make money. How about the banks that make loans specifically to miners?

After a breakout and retest of the creek for the XAU, historically I put at least 20 points or more for the advance to a new high before a consolidation begins.

If you look at the breakout in 2002 we advanced 22.33 points. Again, in 2003 we advanced 24.85 points..

http://www.stocksharepublishing.com/ChartL..._1136089180.png

If you allow for this same kind of advance then the likelyhood at arriving at 137, 140 or even 150 is pretty good. The reason I might even suspect the 150 area highs is because we have a large amount of horizontal cause just below us. The only question right now is do we pull back to retest the creek area here or continue on to higher ground.

In 1993 after a breakout the XAU advanced 33 points off the 95 creek ... then turned back to retest the creek

http://www.StockSharePublishing.com/ChartL..._1136090480.png

after it retested the 95 creek it once again made an advance from 95 to 146 or 137 points..

http://www.StockSharePublishing.com/ChartL..._1136090569.png

in considation of this.. we could possibly retest the 155 highs in 2006
Charmin
On the weekly chart.. we now have matched the March to December '03 advance..

looking at the chart.. 128.90 is our 1:1 relationship

I'm thinking that on a pullback I'll be adding a natural resource or Precious metals mutual fund to compliment my individual miner holdings.

In the near term I am looking at what a gold consolidation could do
http://www.foxfutures.com/futures/051227-dlff/DLevels.htm

and for seasonality on HUI I am wondering about a consolidation trading range that drifts down into the March/April time frame.. but stays above the creek.

http://www.StockSharePublishing.com/ChartL..._1136231590.png
Charmin
I am also wondering about the retest of the volume climax and low close for NEM on Dec. 12

http://www.StockSharePublishing.com/ChartL..._1136233812.png
Charmin
A wad of peanut butter is stuck to my gold charts for Dec. 12...
higher volume selling on many of the ones I'm looking at.. even though most absorbed higher.

could be pre-supply

Look at GFI for example..
http://www.StockSharePublishing.com/ChartL..._1136234282.png
or HMY
http://www.StockSharePublishing.com/ChartL..._1136234404.png
Charmin
Dec. 12 didn't affect TRE did it ..lol
Charmin
showed up on Dec. 12 for AUY.. but absorbed the supply

http://www.StockSharePublishing.com/ChartL..._1136234544.png
Charmin
Dec. 12 showed up on BGO
http://www.StockSharePublishing.com/ChartL..._1136234624.png

so at this time Dec. 12 becomes a reference point to watch on my charts as possilble pre-supply .. like Sept. 19 did when RGLD and GG showed up as a high..

I ran across articles by Petch at the Safe Haven site - well worth the read. I believe Petch is pondering some interesting final targets for Gold and Silver that coincides with what I believe is possible in a very long term cycle of 500 years.

Petch

If anyone has read the Great Reckoning by Rees Mogg and Davidson they too discuss 500 year cycles. Years 1000 to 1500 were prosperous, whereas the 1500's ushered in the dark ages. So while we've disussed 20-21 year cycles and shorter term cycles - what about the 500 year cycle - eh?

If you look at the 500 year charts on Gold and Silver it certainly looks that we have hit a bottom. Here's 7 waves down on Silver ... one can dream - LOL!

Prechter, although widely discredited the last little while biggrin.gif ) pointed out this long cycle in his 1980 book. We could experience an overthrow is regards to the pm's. After all if we rally towards 2020 that's only 20 years in a 500 year cycle.
Crouching Tiger
Although the chart doesn't show all of 1000 to 1500 it looks like a steady upward price for those 500 years. That last spike down in it's extreme indicates a bottom in my mind.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'We could experience an overthrow'???

It is possible that we have seen the inflationary highs in some commodities. Overthrow was the wrong word. Extension would be more accurate.

tonight Feb. gold making new highs silver following

what has been interesting is how gold stocks showed supply on Dec. 12 along with gold topping out in the 540 area.. but the strong hands basically held their shares.. or the supply was absorbed...

let the games begin..

Here's the next thing to look for..

"The U.S. Dollar has been artificially supported in recent weeks by an inflow of U.S. Dollars resulting from repatriation. The abrupt ending of repatriation will cause significant weakness in the U.S. Dollar relative to other major world currencies starting in January. Assets priced in U.S. Dollars in world markets (e.g. precious metals, base metals, forest products, grains) could benefit."

Gold Fields has been slowly sweeping up shares of Bolivar and now owns about 19.85 percent of the company.

The South African firm, the world's fourth largest gold producer, launched its friendly bid for Bolivar in November, with the aim of increasing foreign output.

The Toronto-based company operates the Choco 10 open pit mine in Venezuela, which is expected to produce 48,000 ounces in 2005 and 190,000 in 2006.

Bolivar will hold a special meeting for shareholders on Jan. 12.

Shares of Bolivar rose 2 Canadian cents to C$2.93 on the Toronto Stock

Missed this news. I bought GFI recently, probably why it is in a holding pattern.

tcg, thanks, i always read sinclair, but these articles make it all come to the fore.
well , i made a classic mistake, sold 1/2 at what appeared to be the highs. now i am in the uncomfortable position of deciding what to do here. i do think there will be other opportunities. 725 is on deck this year. dharma

Dharma,

Agreed, no reason to chase here, you've been around long enough to know better. There are always corrections. Although, there are several ST trades that look decent right now.

Never call taking a profit a mistake?

Best,

I was set to put in my last 400 bucks into TRE at $6.09, it gapped over it.
MYNG up by 18% this am on 2.5 million shares, I know, only a 3cent stock.
It's early yet in the miners, anything can happen. Close will be interesting.

Boy I look silly selling some AGT at .22 (it's .28 today).

But the $ did go into TGB. pssst: their Prosperity property in BC: "probably Canada's largest undeveloped gold-copper porphyry project", -Ron Thiessen during last weeks CC.

Basically no value for Prosperity in TGB stock...they invested $50 million in the 90's prior to the gold/copper hitting their lows (project shelved at that point)...compare this porphyry to KRY's.

HUI +20!! Whoa!

biggrin.gif

And I love how gold has come back so strong after a recent sharp correction. Amazing, what looked like an intermediate high now looks like only a short term high that we're about to break (and in the HUI, of course, already did a while back). Punishes those who are trying to trade.... wink.gif

QEE +15% at present. Starting to take off, finally?? When it does it'll be big.

Does the quick rise in gold indicate a double top in gold for the intermediate term?

St Andrews SAS.TO Anyone have an idea what is going on the last 2 days? St Andrews acquired a holding from Kinross. I am much less bullish on St Andrews these days with 600 million shares outstanding.

On Friday, SAS was up on something like 10 times average volume. Today it was up briefly but is slightly down on massive volume again.

By my measures of it's soon to produce mine, I value SAS at 21 cents only.
