Another breakout at open but things have quietened down considerably so maybe we get a sideways move for the rest of the day. All Ords currently +0.8% with Materials and Energy equal leaders, +1.9%. 3 sectors are red with Telecom down the most, -0.4%.

In the miners BHP and RIO are both up 2.5% and the golds are up but not looking too exciting. With the gold price looking like it might revisit recent lows it seems like the punters taking a wait-and-see stance.

Oils are green but on very light volume.

Asia trading cautiously upwards: Sth Korea leading, +0.7%.

Looks like things will remain quiet until Big Brother's back in the game wink.gif

Mexico Holds Interest Rate

May 26 (Bloomberg) -- Mexico's central bank held the benchmark lending rate at a 21-month low, snapping nine straight months of reductions that have helped spark faster growth.

Banco de Mexico left the overnight rate at 7 percent and said it sees no room for cuts in the ``foreseeable future,'' repeating language used in last month's statement. Central bankers reiterated they expect to meet the inflation target of 3 percent plus or minus one percentage point this year.

Japan's Retail Sales Decline

May 29 (Bloomberg) -- Japan's retail sales fell for the first time in three months as wet weather and cool temperatures kept shoppers at home.

Retail sales declined 0.6 percent in April from a year earlier, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said in Tokyo today.

Looks like we're in for a leg up at this stage. All Ords closed +1.1%, Energy moved into first place, +2.6% and Materials came in second, +2.5%. IT did a dive to -0.5%.

BHP and RIO had a good one, +3.3% and +2.3% respectively. The golds continued to waffle with only Lihir closing up, +3%, Newcrest flat and Newmont -0.4%.

Oils looked strong although volume remained lightish. Woodside finished +3.4% and Santos +2.5%.

A mix in Asia ranging from China +2% to Nikkers -0.3%.

Over to Europe:
