A small pullback today, not surprising after yesterday's gains. All Ords currently -0.1% and looking like it may close green eod. Very little movement in the sectors: Consumer Staples leading, +0.6% and Telecom is at the other end, -0.6%.
In the miners, BHP down slightly, -0.3% and RIO -1.1%. The golds, however, are picking up speed as the gold price holds its own. Lihir -1.3%, Newmont +1.5% and Newcrest +0.2%.
The oils are mixed with Woodside down and Santos up.
Asia down slightly........

Japan's Industrial Output Rises as Jobless Stays at 7-Year Low May 30 (Bloomberg) -- Japan's industrial production rose in April and unemployment stayed at a seven-year low as manufacturers expanded automobile and electronics factories.
Industrial production climbed a seasonally adjusted 1.5 percent from March, the trade ministry said in a report in Tokyo today. The jobless rate was unchanged at 4.1 percent for a third month and a ratio showing how many positions were available to a job seeker returned to a 13-year high, separate ministries said.

Australian Dollar Rises; Retail Sales Gain More Than Expected May 30 (Bloomberg) -- The Australian dollar strengthened after a government report showed retail sales rose the most in almost a year, raising speculation the central bank will add to this month's interest-rate increase.
The currency climbed after retail sales rose almost five times what economists expected in April. The Reserve Bank of Australia raised its overnight cash rate target to 5.75 percent on May 3 to damp consumer spending, which accounts for about 60 percent of the economy, and slow inflation.
--------------
Clouds hang over housingTHE sale of new homes across Australia tumbled in April even before interest rates rose to a five-year high in early May, a survey has revealed.
The Housing Industry Association's (HIA) New Home Sales figures released today show that the sale of new homes and units among Australia's largest builders and developers fell by 6.5 per cent in April to 9455 dwellings.
Sales of new houses dropped by 6.9 per cent while the sale of multi-unit dwellings fell by 3.8 per cent.

Hmmm looking like a consolidation at the highs for the past couple of days so maybe a blast north tomorrow. All Ords poked briefly into the green but ended -0.1% and the sectors diverged somewhat. Property Trusts finished at the top, +0.8% and Telecom at the bottom, -1.1%.
The miners waffled around and BHP and RIO remained in the red although not by much. Golds slipped a touch with only Newmont +0.7% finishing green.
Oils looked reasonable with Santos +1.2% and Woodside did a surge into close, +0.2%.
Asia mixed ranging from India +0.8% to Sth Korea -0.9%.

The End, Did you see the news?
You DO NOT have to buy the Vonage ipo at 17. Deal by Vonage over the weekend. They decided not to make ipo customers do it. They must be concerned of losing customers. This is an amazing move by them as they will buy the stock themselves.

May 30 2006, 12:15 PM

Looked everywhere, including the company's website press releases. Nothing about it.

It was on Crapvision.
Something to the effect of Vonage not expecting their customers to have to pay for this considering they personally called their customers and asked them to invest. They mentioned 13% of shares being sold this way and that it wasn't normal. They then went on to mention that if the customers did not want the shares, they would buy them instead.
This was mentioned by Joe and the boys on Crapvision and the horrible start to the IPO. They thought it was not right for them to do this. It is a VERY bold move of Vonage though. I respect it.
Perhaps its a rare example of good morals but most likely a move to keep all their customers from quitting the service. I would assume the article should be out shortly. The decision was made this weekend.
Check out XLE getting a bid! Nice start on my PEIX. Just goes to show the value of the pre-market on these gambles. Probably gets round tripped.

"Hanging Up on Vonage"
13.5% sold to customers.
Over the weekend, customers were refusing to pay up for the stock. They considered sueing them or sticking underwriters.
Late Sunday...while all avenues are available to us, we do not expect to alienate them and will buy back shares that they will not pay up for.
SEC may get involved. Messiest IPO in a long time. They say alot of people have payed already. Get ready for the lawsuits to start flying.
9000 signed up. About 2000 have paid.
question. Can they say to their clients they have to pay but make the others not involved in the IPO to pay. All kinds of things brewing up.
Solution seems to be...short this pos!!
