It was straight into the green today but it's a quiet one. All Ords currently +0.8%, all sectors are up with Materials and Consumer Discretionary equal leaders, +1.1%. IT is up the least, +0.1%.
BHP and RIO have both rebounded today and the golds are mixed on low volume.
Likewise the oils are up but volume very light.
Over in Asia the indices are rising led by Singers +0.9%.

South Korea's Exports Have Biggest Gain in 18 Months June 1 (Bloomberg) -- South Korea's exports advanced a more-than-expected 21.1 percent in May, the largest gain in 18 months, as companies shipped more auto parts, liquid crystal display screens, and chips to China, the U.S. and elsewhere.
Shipments rose to a record $28 billion last month from a year earlier, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy said today in a statement.

Martha Stewart is accused of selling some stock after her boyfriend spills the beans, thus profiting by a couple hundred thousand bucks. For her, jail time and now civil charges from the SEC.
Mario Gabelli is accused of defrauding the government of 205 MILLION DOLLARS.
For him, negotiating a fine of 100 million dollars. No criminal charges.
Justice.

Congrats to the Rambus faithful -- years of suffering may finally pay off.
http://money.cnn.com/2006/06/01/technology....reut/index.htm"The correspondence among direct competitors in the memory chip business suggest they traded information to keep prices up, the Journal said on Thursday.
Some of the e-mails also suggest a collaboration among Rambus competitors to keep prices low to discourage use of Rambus's double data rate, or DDR, technology, according to the Journal, which was given access to the e-mails by Rambus.
Rambus (Research) has filed antitrust claims in San Francisco County Superior Court against companies that have also been implicated in a Justice Department investigation into price fixing. These companies include Micron, Hynix, and Samsung."
AAPL: as far as the suggestion that AAPL needs to do something dramatic to keep the magic, they're on it. According to an ad on the same page as that article above, there's a "news" story that AAPL is going to start making some of their laptops in bright colored cases instead of bland old white.

I know gold doesn't always run contrary to USD but I'm thinking the latter will rapidly lose popularity in the not too distant future and that may be enough to precipitate gold into stardom.

My local utility is in the process of bidding power supply requirements for 2007 and beyond.
At this time, they are seeing indications in the energy marketplace that residential and small commercial members will likely see electric bills that are 20% to 30% higher in 2007 than 2006. Larger commercial and industrial members (including primary) will likely experience bills that are between 30% and 35% higher in 2007 than in 2006.
If this is typical, then you know where we're going.

Exited some minor gold positions (CEF, IAG) and QQQQs. Not too bad on them as I just did a market sell at the open and apparently there were a bunch
of buyers around (probably buy at market orders placed last night). Dumped the QQQQs as well. Only thing that hurt was dropping PVX.
My trading account has been in a $3K trading range since the "crash" and I haven't been able to make progress there. Interest for the month should show up today or tomorrow which should help. I'm only playing with fairly small money in the account as well. I may take another stab at CEF later today or just bag it for a few weeks. I noticed Doc's port and generally concur with the stance right now.

Yeah, knife catching the metals is definitely a bad risk right now. I finally lightened up on some of my earlier, ill-timed trades this morning. Out at a bit of a loss, but it's better than letting the profits from earlier in the year slip way.
