George Washington did it. Hell even drain commissioners in Kalamazoo and Hibbing have done it too. Made some good coin on RE investing. Just know where the road or the railroad or the airport or the latest mall is going and it's pretty easy to get lucky being an investor.
Clinton was a disgrace to politicians the world over with his Whitewater investment. He invested $48K and lost every dime. There are probably 10,000 alderman or township board members on down who have made 7 figures since Clinton lost every cent in the late 70's. I know a guy who has his fingers on the pulse of the local airport board who made a cool $9 million on a cornfield adjoining it. Piece of cake.

Hassert is really in the clear on this one and I have zero use for the guy. That road was a done deal, if not now then later. It's a hot area still and is attracting lots of speculators. Never in the history of the world has there been a scandal involving a politician who lost every cent of an investment. The very idea is non sensical. Yet a good portion of the nation believed in it. Hundreds of people made lucrative careers out of hyping it. As I said at the outset, the only scandal was that Clinton lost every cent. A black mark on political profession deserving of the deepest scorn.
When the Clintons left for DC their net worth was $87K, including a 88 cutlass but no home. The poorest man ever to be President. After almost 20 years near the top of state government and he had nothing. No home, nothing. Let's face it. Isn't this a record of failure? Clinton hatred is as much as anything based upon class. A man with nothing financially is nothing.
Dick Cheney got $20 million from Halliburton and he didn't even do the job CEO's are supposed to do. He didn't fiddle with that day to day crap. He was just an influence peddler. No apologies, no excuses. So it goes. Nothing scandalous about it. That's how the world works.
