All Ords waffling around today and it looks like punters a touch undecided about where it's all going. The index currently -0.2% with most sectors in the red. Financials and Property Trusts are leading on the downside, -0.6% and -0.8% respectively. Materials is the greenest, +0.8%.
In the miners, BHP +1%, RIO +0.5% and goldwise, Lihir doing a dive, -3.9%, Newcrest flat and Newmont +0.2%.
Oils are mixed: Woodside +1.2% and Santos -0.1%.
Asia mostly red......

Just heard a fascinating discussion on BBC's overseas news broadcast, about Australian research into kangaroo farts.
It seems that kangaroos have a different bacteria in their intestinal tract than the bacteria that cows have. Cows produce huge amounts of methane, but kangaroos do not, even though they eat pretty much the same stuff. So they are going to try giving cows some of the kangaroos' bacteria to see if that will cut down on cow methane emissions.

A drift back towards support today. All Ords -0.5% with Materials the only green sector, +0.2%, well off the earlier highs. There were reasonable falls on most the others with Telecom down the most, -1.6% and IT/Property Trusts -1%.
In the miners, BHP +0.1% and RIO +0.3% barely managed to stay green. The golds all slid with Lihir down the most after announcing a company takeover, -4.2%.
Oils weren't too bright either: Woodside -0.1% and Santos -0.7%.
All red in Asia with Singers down the most, -1.2%.
UK/Europe opened down but is now trying to muster a bounce:

Listened to a visiting Kiwi researcher couple of weeks ago on the radio.
Totally dedicated to finding commercial applications for rare and exotic grasses of the South Pacific.
Has one grass in field trials that reduces sheep farts by 50% or so. The grass has less calories/joules than normal grass, but since methane is basically energy, the sheep turn the methane into flesh. Fewer farts and more meat per acre.
Only problem is the grass needs a very narrow soil ph level to survive/thrive. Not sure if its economic yet.
Another grass he's developing is repulsive to many birds, including seagulls. Found it on a really small south pacific island. Locals/natives called it something like "island where the birds don't go."
Target use is around airports and maybe golf courses near landfills-hey what the man said.
Cow/sheep farts contribute about 20% of total greenhouse gases by some estimates I've seen.
Lots of money to be made in cow farts for whoever figures out how to reduce them.

I am still holding from about 122. Very small position so I'm going to let it ride for now. Oilers selling off with market. Would like to see how this unfolds. Not adding right now. The b'out level is obviously 130-131, so would likely add higher or lower, but not here.
Oilers have had a massive run in the past week, so i'd like to see how things settle here.
BTW, find it amusing to keep reading stock bulls chortle over how the energy "bubble" is "so over." Yet the energies have been outperforming for a couple weeks now. Not to mention, the energy group (as a subsector of WLSH 5000) is still farting around at 10 trailing P/E (and 8 forward P/E) while the smallcrap growth sector (for eg) is trading at nearly 33 trailing P/E.
Funny how energy is a bubble at 10 P/E, yet smallcrap growth is a "strong buy" at 33 P/E (almost double its 25-year avg.) LOL.
Of course, as we all know, valuation does not matter. Until it does.

Watching the Spoozer on the hourlies. It has been following the rising 50hourMA all the way up. Most of the corrextions have been caught by the 50hourMA (now at 1356). The last time it dumped down to the 200hourMA was on 9/11.
So watch 1356ish for clues.

Especially true of forward P/Es, which are essentially guesstimates of made-up numbers. At least trailing P/Es are actual made-up numbers.
