An attempt to break thru to new highs but it has been thwarted at this moment in time. In fact I wouldn't be surprised to see All Ords finish the day red. The index currently +0.1% and Consumer Staples is leading the greens, +1% and at the other end Telecom is experiencing a backlash after the recent run, -1.4%.
Big miners are treading water: BHP +0.4%, RIO +0.7% and in the golds, Newcrest is the only gainer, +1.8%.
Oils are tentatively up: Woodside +0.1% and Santos +0.5%.
Over in Asia, Nikkers starting the day down, -0.9%.

Oops, what was I saying re possible red by eod? Not so and in fact All Ords zipped up +0.6% and made a new record high! Most sectors had reasonable gains with the exceptions of IT, -0.2% and Telecom -0.8%. Consumer Staples retained the lead, +1.6%.
The resource sector was really what carried the day. BHP and RIO both closed +0.9% and the golds all moved into green territory with gains of 1% or more, quite a turnaround from the morning.
Oils also gained traction: Woodside +1.3% and Santos +0.5%.
Over in Asia, Nikkers was one of the few reds, -0.2% and Singers is leading at this stage, +0.8%.

What's in a name?

Answer: 14%+ one day white candle for BQI.
Annual meeting yesterday. Name change from "CanWest Petroleum Corporation" to "Oil Sands Quest" was the BIG announcement.
"Oil Sands Quest" kinda rolls over the lips, Eh?
The LITTLE announcement was doubling of shares authorized. Smells like dilution and sounds like the real "quest" is going to be for cash to keep the company solvent.
Still not a bad trading stock.

For those who remember my intraday Qdp calls, I’ve recently started calculating them again.
I have one today that looks quite significant at approx 13:00 E.T (+/- 30mins)
For those who are unaware, a Qdp (quantum decision pivot) may lead to a turn. However it only really helps determine a (high probability) point in time where major pivot price level gets tested.
Qdp’s normally get busted in trending moves, and as we all know the market has been trending for months now. However my last Qdp calculation nailed the Monday high (spx cash @ 1381, spx dec futs @ 1387), so this is my first signal that a top may be forming.
Good luck today!

While I know that many of you have 19" screens and larger, the majority of folks are still working on 17" monitors. You can help those of us still using 20th century technology by keeping in mind a couple of small points.
When copying and pasting links, especially long links, be careful not to put any characters whatsoever in front of the http://. The board will not recognize that it is a link if there's a symbol or letter, number or character of any kind before the http://. That means a long link will spread horizontally across the monitor sometimes several screen widths. It also will not show up as a link, just a bunch of gibberish code. Just copy and paste the link with at least one space in front of it or at the beginning of a line, as you would with any word or phrase and the board software will shorten it and convert it to a link in the post.
If you are hotlinking charts, be sure to select the smallest chart size that is readable before linking. If it is necessary to post a wide chart, download the chart to your machine, then attach it to the post. The board will create a thumbnail which when clicked will open the image in a separate window.
Finally, if you are hotlinking a graphic of any kind wider than 550 pixels, which will caus the board page to widen, just post the link rather than using the img tag, or alternatively, download the original, then attach it to your post as an attachment, as above. Remember, you can always edit your post if necessary.
By following these simple steps, it will help to avoid those situations where your fellow stoolies with smaller screens would have to scroll back and forth across the page.
Many tanks!

PrimeWest Energy Trust Informs Unitholders of Government of Canada Taxation Announcement
CALGARY, ALBERTA--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 1, 2006) - PrimeWest Energy Trust (TSX:PWI.UN)(TSX:PWX)(TSX:PWI.DB.A)(TSX:PWI.DB.

(NYSE:PWI) (PrimeWest or the Trust) wishes to inform its unitholders of an announcement made by the Honourable Jim Flaherty, Canadian Minister of Finance late yesterday detailing proposed changes to the taxation of Canadian income trusts.
The relevant measures announced include a proposed tax on distributions paid by publicly traded income trusts and limited partnerships, and will result in less after-tax cash being available for payment to all unitholders. As an existing income trust it is important to note that these measures will not apply to PrimeWest until January 2011. Under the Government's proposal the existing tax treatment of distributions will remain in effect during the four-year grace period to 2011.
PrimeWest is a Calgary-based conventional oil and gas royalty trust that actively acquires, develops, produces and sells natural gas, crude oil and natural gas liquids for the generation of monthly cash distributions to Unitholders. Trust Units of PrimeWest are traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) under the symbol "PWI.UN" and on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "PWI". Exchangeable Shares of PrimeWest Energy Inc. are listed on the TSX under the symbol "PWX". Five-year Convertible Debentures of PrimeWest trade on the TSX under the symbol "PWI.DB.A" and the Seven-year Convertible Debentures trade under the symbol "PWI.DB.B".
