On a much-needed downer today. All Ords -0.5% with only a couple of green sectors, Energy +0.3% and Healthcare +0.6%. Materials is down the most, -0.9%.

Australia's Employment Unexpectedly Falls; Jobless Rate 4.6%

Nov. 9 (Bloomberg) -- Australian employment unexpectedly dropped in October as manufacturers shifted operations offshore, snapping a five-month run of jobs growth.

Employment fell 32,100 after gaining a revised 30,000 in September. The jobless rate slipped to 4.6 percent from 4.8 percent as fewer people sought work, the Bureau of Statistics said today in Sydney. The median forecast of 24 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News was for 7,500 new jobs and an unemployment rate of 4.8 percent.

The worst drought on record and rising interest rates may sap growth in the Asia-Pacific region's fifth-largest economy, curbing employment. Still, the jobless rate is at a 30-year low and is stoking wage increases and inflation even as the economy's 15-year expansion cools. The Reserve Bank of Australia has raised interest rates three times this year to stem inflation.

N.Z. Jobless Rate Rises to 3.8% as Hiring Stalls

Nov. 9 (Bloomberg) -- New Zealand's unemployment rate rose in the third quarter as companies shed workers, adding to signs record- high interest rates are slowing economic growth. The nation's currency fell.

The jobless rate increased to 3.8 percent from a record-low 3.6 percent in the second quarter, Statistics New Zealand said in Wellington today. Employment fell by 9,000 jobs.

A few buyers trickled in towards close but not enough to make much of a difference. All Ords finished -0.5% with Healthcare still leading, +1% and on the downside, Telecom took the honours, -1.4%. Financials also took a hit, -1%.

In the miners, RIO turned around to close +0.1% and BHP came off its lows, -0.3%. The golds came in around the -1% mark.

The oils continued to climb: Woodside +0.9% and Santos +1.7%.

A mixed bag in Asia ranging from Nikkers -0.5% to Honkers +0.7%.

alceringa, how about IMAX today? It has been crushed. Down 15%. Got hacked afterhours. It has strong support at 4. It is currently at 4.07.
I think movies were really popular during the depression. A nice escape from reality. I wouldn't think this was a sector that suffered during tough times. Just the people at the snack bar will hurt as people will sneak in cokes instead of paying 4.50 for one.
Whoever thought of super high prices at the snack bar was a genius. People accepted it.
Oh, not that I would buy this garbage ltbh! laugh.gif Just the "pop" trade.

Only about 130% volume on the day for both total. I like IMAX the best. At least we have heard of it.

How come nobody has been posting charts with massive resistance that could implode 25% if we collapse from here? It would be the perfect opportunity to catch a top print.
Actually, seems we go in a range after next week. People will probably Dorsett the market back and forth for 2 months as the battle lines are drawn.
If we do not have a solid breakout and Dorsett all over the place from here I am just going to trade QLD and QID. It had enough range in both directions yesterday to pull off 2 or 3 trades. The swings seemed pretty basic using regular indicators on the intraday basis yesterday.

Gold To Hit $850/Oz Within Next 2 Years - Goldcorp CEO
http://www.amtddj.inlumen.com/bin/djstory?...0aebqLqWmdi5nZG
LONDON (Dow Jones)--Gold prices will hit a new record high of $850 a troy ounce within the next two years as continued strong demand for commodities from China offsets a slowdown in U.S. economic growth, chief executive of Vancouver-based gold producer Goldcorp Inc. (GG) said Thursday.

And gold will also benefit from a depreciation of the U.S. dollar, a key driver for gold as it tends to be negatively correlated to the precious metal, Ian Telfer added.

"We're close to the middle of the commodity cycle and strong demand growth will continue. There are few large gold mines coming on stream," Telfer told delegates at the RBC Capital Market Gold Conference in London.

Looks like this guy has the same thoughts as many here.

Might be good for a small scalp, but needs to get a 60-75% haircut, at least, premarket to make it worthwhile, IMO.

Anybody see "Fires of Kuwait"?

The opening scene in that movie might well be the most awesome, dramatic piece of documentary film ever shot.

I like the market action premarket as my longs are looking up. No clue on today. Woke up early to have my wheels rebalanced. Spent 4.5 hours on Sunday waiting to get new tires and one of them threw a weight on Monday.

Was carpet bombed with Home Depot and Tweeter ads on the radio on the way in.

My home internet service is still out.

I'm not buying TRE as I have enough other stuff. Jickass will tell me that you can never
have enough other stuff like TRE but he hasn't been around lately.

DJ Israel PM: Gaza Artillery Strike On "Technical Error"

JERUSALEM (AP)--Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Thursday said the
Israeli artillery barrage that killed 18 civilians in the Gaza Strip was
caused by a "technical error."

Olmert, speaking in English, expressed regret for the bloodshed and said he
had personally looked into the cause of Wednesday's predawn artillery strike.

Booked profits in the trading port. Nice morning. Sold CREE in the long-term port, still holding GG, IAG, XOM, BRK/A (another all-time high today), SLW.

Sell in May and go away is working out well. The tough part was figuring out
when to get back in. I'm slowly getting my confidence back but still booking profits fairly quickly. I've only had one moderate setback (thanks to the
Canadian tax ruling mostly which was out of my control) and a lot of small
gains and a few moderate ones.
Dr.Correll
anyone think TRLG is a good buy?
mmoy
Dumped everything else as well. Not sure that I'm a true believer in the miners anymore. I'm finding that they're more fun to trade than to buy

Hard not to have some attachment to the miners and oils.

What is this concept of "fair value"?

TRLG looks cheep at 16 P/E (10 on a fwd basis), especially after the haircut this week.

But True Religion is a fad retailer selling $200+ jeans. Fads come and go. Celebrities were ga-ga over True Religion, but those fickle folks have been known to change their minds.

TRLG has done particularly well in Japan where they loves them some expensive fad clothing. But sales in Japan are off 50%. Wowzer. That not good.

Of course, TRLG blames the sales shortfall on "warm weather." Global warming?

In my experience, anytime a retailer starts blaming weak sales on the weather, it's a big red flag. Especially a $200 jeans maker. I could see it if they made goose-down parkas. But blue jeans?

But who knows. Maybe TRLG is the next Guess. Or the next Jordache.
