The normal programme resumes as All Ords moves up +0.3%. Not a lot of movement in the sectors; IT is up the most, +0.8% and the only red is Property Trusts, -0.1%.

Miners are up: BHP +0.9%, RIO +0.6% and the golds are in the green about half a percent on average.

Both the big oils are down: Woodside -0.6% and Santos -0.4%.

aussiebear
The first cyclone of the season, cyclone Isobel. Only a mild one but if it combines with the system in the south west it could produce a LOT of rain tomorrow.

Ooh well, the mood changed not too long after open. All Ords closed -0.3% with scarcely a green sector to be seen. IT closed up the most, +1.2% with the only other plus sector, Healthcare, +0.3%. Property Trusts remained the downside leader, -1.4% followed by Utilities -1.3%.

Miners all moved into the red but not to any great degree: BHP -0.2%, RIO -0.3% and in the golds Newmont and Newcrest both closed -0.2%.

Oils continued to slide: Woodside -1.6% and Santos -1%.

Mixed in Asia ranging from Singapore +1.3% to Sth Korea -1.5%.

Singapore's Economic Growth Unexpectedly Accelerates

Jan. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Singapore's economic growth unexpectedly accelerated to the fastest pace in a year as surging tourist arrivals and increased consumer spending helped offset lower electronics exports. Stocks rose to a record.

Southeast Asia's fourth-largest economy grew an annualized 7.6 percent in the final three months of 2006, after expanding a revised 5.6 percent in the third quarter, the trade ministry said in a report today. Economists expected a 4.1 percent gain.

India's Multi Commodity Exchange Seeks Investor

Jan. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd. said it's receiving at least one approach a month from overseas investors seeking a stake in a national market that may double to more than $900 billion of trading volume this year.

India's biggest commodity exchange wants a global broker or rival exchange to join Fidelity International Ltd. as a shareholder once the government relaxes investment restrictions imposed last year, Jignesh Shah, managing director of the Mumbai-based bourse, said in an interview yesterday.

Overseas capital will help the exchange boost services as commodities trading surges in the world's biggest buyer of gold and second-largest sugar and rice producer. Fidelity and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. are the only overseas investors so far allowed to buy stakes in India's commodity exchanges.

Woodside, Santos Halt Australia Oil Output on Cyclone

Jan. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Woodside Petroleum Ltd. and Santos Ltd. have shut down facilities accounting for almost half of Australia's oil output as Tropical Cyclone Isobel passed near the nation's main crude-producing region.

Output at the North West Shelf venture's Cossack Pioneer ship was stopped yesterday, Peter Kermode, a spokesman for the Woodside-operated project, said today. Woodside also shut the Legendre oil field, while Santos halted output at the Mutineer- Exeter field, bringing shutdowns to about 168,000 barrels a day.

Tropical Cyclone Isobel, the season's first, is about 110 kilometers (68 miles) northeast of Port Hedland, moving south- southeast at 26 kilometers an hour with winds of up to 95 kilometers an hour, the Bureau of Meteorology said. Western Australia had more than average cyclones last season, when BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto Group also shut iron ore mines and ports.

Be sure to check out Kal's Party Line. lol! Too dirty lipping to post but it is actual radio spots for Atlanta noghtlife 900 numbers. This guy is hilarious. Check out his beach party stuff etc. laugh.gif

Should be a pretty wild day but I get the impression that we might not close up at all or barely.

Now gold is losing yesterday's gains. Volatility galore coming.

I'll be watching for the Nazdaq and hui correlation lt to continue or finally get some real divergence going. I haven't seen anything beyond st and kinda IT but no LT.
I'll be watching for the miners and gold to diverge at some point this year.

If the market tanks I don't think the miners will be strong short term. The charts will be the decider of course but larger comparisons, scenarios and strategies need to watched on a longer term scale.
The dollar has of course auotmatically gotten more volatile. Direction is not that important at this time imo. since the boyz are in homerun screw the bears and bulls mode now imo.
The best way for them to play volatility is crank and shank the market back and forth massively and repeatedly to shake out the small guys, then the medium guys then the large guys....imo.
BEst to have he market go back to this exact point in a month or 3 before they really decide to retrace the thing beyond a week or 2. imo. No clue what will happen but gaming all possibilities.
The dollar has already shown us that he needs to be watched. Fake out breakout and breakdowns will probably be the norm in this market.
Tony Dorsett should have a record year.

Forget about this mortgage commercial specifics. Many of us should start using this software that this guy uses. You have a combination of visual and instructional. etc.

That guy is what I call a "Professional Amateur".
"Wealth Flow Positive" baby. Think outside the uhhh....glass bubble?

Pretty cool software
This is going to be the new trend so many of you should beat the main crowd before it gets widespread normal beyond where it is...
I actually used a software program on a US wide conversation. This was for Pride and Petroleum Supply. Diamond Offshore and Ensco piddling with it as well.
The bugs of the program were really bad and needed alot of work before it became mainstream but we basically all joined in and watched the guy control the screen on our laptops for the presentation etc. and learning of the devices.
He movd around the mouse, clicked over to areas we needed help on with the mouse and interatively helped us learn the program. The prgram was of course for purchasing as I was in control of these main accounts.
Think India beyond telephone. This is an absolute must.
I wonder who the software pros are with this specific program etc. and how many clones there are already etc. We need to look out for the MySpace/ You tube double software combo programs with crazy options etc.
In other words, interactivity will be a large focus of me over the next couple years. Easier convience for me means less time spent so stocks aren't even that important here but entertaining.

It is odd for this guy to claim how good of a real estate bargain things have been over the years when it is going parabolic and he has a topped out needle top chart right in front of him to the left of his claims.
Simple pattern relationships is obvious to the 2 year old on the chart. Just ask them what you think it will do best. Oddly a child can probably see the charts better because their spacial seeing etc. is different from ours.
Look at perspectives of a childs picture. Look at the tree house and person. I saw a cool program on how we lose that depth field view or whatever over time. Real artists have to retrain themselves to draw spacial stuff correctly. Cool show.

Shorty will probably need to take an alkaseltzer first before hearing the mortgage guy.
doc.....just don't even listen to it! tongue.gif BUT it is a really cool powerpoint type online free youtube viewing to link. Think screen control with a group watching interactively and all the other things that could later be incorporated.
You can now upload videos to youtube directly from your video camera. It gets cooler with the options every day.

This guy is going to have a few complaint issues in a year or 3. He needs a visit from Matt Foley.

Priceless. Nardsaqdelli supposedly resigned "amidst criticism over his compensation." Yeah right.

Home Despot shareholders, despite the biggest housing boom in the history of the universe, got nothing the last 7-8 years. Bob Nardsaqdelli, on the other hand, walks away with nearly half a billion for his six years of hard labor.

No doubt the disgraced-but-stinking-rich Nardsaqdelli will be back at the trough soon, probably heading up some private equity fund or appointed CEO of some other fine company where he'll be able to siphon off another half a bil over the next six years.

Nice work if you can get it. And he can get it.

I'll be very disappointed in the crooks if they can't jimmy-jack the Sow 250 points today.

First trading day of year should be good for 100. Jerry Ford's death is worth 25. Saddam's hanging is good for 75. And the sacking of Bob Nardsaqdelli is worth 50.

Chinee internut BIDU up 8% today on a borker upgrade to "sector perform", citing "an improved operating environment."

Now trading at 161 P/E, so plenty of upside given the modest valuation. I wouldn't get worried until it trades over 300 P/E where it might be considered mildly overvalued by some scaredy-cat funnymentalists.

In reviewing the charts for OIH (oil services) and XAL (hairliners) last week, looked to me like OIH was heading back to 130 and XAL was going to attempt a breakout above 62. Seems to be the case so far.

If XAL breaks 62 (it's at 60 right now), should be headed straight away to 70-71.

WMT is planning on converting to a techno-based employee scheduling system based on a new computerized setup that will let store managers know when to expect customer traffic to ebb and flow.

This will result in more part-time work and more irregular hours as employees are essentially "on call" and would be expected to wait by the phone to find out when they are supposed to come in.

The new system will supposedly be a boon to management and customers. For employees? Not so much. "The whole point is workers were a fixed cost, now they're a variable cost. Is it good for workers? Probably not," says Kenneth Dalto, a mgmt consultant in Farmington Hills, Mich.

The new system may "ask workers to be 'on call' to meet customer surges, or sent home because of a lull, resulting in less pay. It also alerts managers when a worker is approaching full-time status or overtime, which would require higher wages and benefits, so they can scale back that person's schedule."

They might as well get it over with and simply hire robots instead of people. That would solve everything.
