Nasdaq goes on attack, claiming LSE 'milks' its dominant position By James Moore
Published: 09 January 2007
The Nasdaq turned tough yesterday, accusing the London Stock Exchange of "milking its dominant position" in an "unsustainable manner" in its latest attempt to win over LSE shareholders.
The US exchange also launched an attack on the LSE's directors, claiming they had placed "independence before shareholder value" and said the LSE's share price would fall sharply if its hostile bid failed.
The latest circular from the Nasdaq provoked a strongly worded response from the London Stock Exchange, which rejected its arguments and accused the Nasdaq of making statements that were "blatantly misleading" and indulging in little more than "bluster".
An LSE insider said: "It's rich to criticise the LSE for not concentrating on shareholder value when anyone wanting to take more than 20 per cent of the Nasdaq has to get their approval. It seems they are getting rattled."
The City bookmaker Cantor Index now makes the London Stock Exchange retaining its independence the 1-3 favourite - the shortest price this has been since the Nasdaq launched its hostile takeover.
In its document the Nasdaq also attacked the LSE's business saying the London exchange "completely fails to acknowledge new competitive threats" such as Project Turquoise, the pan-European share-trading platform being set up by a group of investment banks.
The Nasdaq reiterated its threat to sell its stake in the LSE should the offer fail and claimed it could make money on the 28.85 per cent of the LSE it holds at any price above £11 because the strength of sterling has made its holding worth more.

Wall to wall green on the AllOrbs. All suctors up.
Utilities and miners leading the way. SmallCraps lagging the BigCraps.
Signs of buying panics developing in BHP and RIO Tinto.
What a difference a day makes.
On the funnymental side here in Oz, extreme weather conditions are starting to be felt in the economy.
Huge percentage of companies are now saying the drought is affecting business, mostly retailers.
StoryOn the other hand, flooding damage from recent storms in Western Australia has some mines and smelters closed, including some of the big nickel operations.
Surreal day where I am. New bushfires are raging not too far away. Orange disk of a sun with really, really thick smoke in the air.

Bullrun on the AllOrbs.
With BHP at around 10% of the whole OZ market and up 3.5%, the bears had no chance today.
Largecraps set the pace again today. Every sucktor stayed green, lead by the miners/materials.

Dividend adjustments on Yahoo often get missed on payment day.
Eventually they usually catch up, but not always.
Right now Yahoo has the adjusted price right for DDM, including the dividend.
Not saying Yahoo had it right when that chart was generated, but it hardly matters. Subscribers to that site aren't paying Yahoo, they are paying the site owners for accurate information and have a right to get it.
If the data is crap, the charts are crap.
So subscribers to that site's software are paying for crap.
Hope you're not one of them.

This is happening more and more K-Wave. Something is up with this stuff that I haven't seen in years. I have been gaming bid/asks pre-market for years. Basically there is nothing to lose and it is easy to control the bid/ask spread early.

I'm mainly looking for short setups with the setups I am seeing in the world markets...methinks we are now very close to synchronized global selling en masse.
Thailand, India, and Korea gving the best signs so far, and that Evening Star on China looks pretty ominous to me...any break below 105 on FXI should seal the deal, and it could get very ugly, very fast should that breach occur.

That was the "A" Shares in Shanghai
That's a totally different company, for all practical purposes, than the Hong Kong "H" Shares or the NYSE ADR's.
Shanghai "A" shares only available to Chinesse residents demonimated in Yuan. Even borkers can't trade "A" shares for the ADR's or "H" Shares.
IPO was underpriced on purpose in Shanghai to whip up enthusiasm.
"H" Shares were actually down 5% overnight in Hong Kong-trading in HK$.

You know, when we had that evenstar on gold I thought it was too easy. I have 5k to play a smack down setup. I already have the long Japan plays rolling.
Japan is all I care about right now. Once alt energy and other things break the mid range channel boring stuff I will delve back that way.
My 100 shares of FCEL are down like 7-8% now. That is why I only wanted 100 shares.
My second half average was to be here around 6 or hopefully a gap down needle bottom below 6. That is the setup I am gaming here. LW is spot on with his analysis of PBW etc. imo.
In May these alt techs had those wedge setups (as I posted). Individuals blasted off with 20% days individually for a week or 3 before that May selloff smackdown happened. All those 20% gapups were erased and the stocks were crushed 40-50% on average.
My 100 alt tech (non-nuclear or ethanl type stuff, is down 40% since starting before the clothesline.
What would be your favorite short setups? I am pathetic with options but would love a gamble option idea for a crash setup. I need some crazy hedges in other words. If it could be assumed that people have been buying stocks to hedge the falling dollar, wyndy is spot on about a dollar short squeeze or whatever definition you want to put on it.
I have 9k left in my account at the moment that I will sacrifice here since all other funds aren't even in the market and gains were simply guaranteed on the setups I chased outside of the market.....forget housing stuff, just know what I did was successful and against the norm so I am not really ambling anything that is not already the houses money anyways.....
Thanks Buskow, volume yesterday was only very low. There was no interest yesterday since the firwrok show was more fun.....jk!

Temperatures over the next week are forecast to continue to run 6 to 15 degrees F above normal in QC. So in spite of the snow, the weather is still warmer than normal. I assume that's true throughout the northeast, which accounts for the bulk of Nat gas and fuel oil consumption in the US.
