China's Wealth Breeds Obesity, Sparking Boom in Stomach Surgery
By John Liu

Jan. 10 (Bloomberg) -- Zheng Chengzhu started researching surgeries to treat weight-related illnesses in China 12 years ago, when he saw his countrymen getting richer -- and fatter.

Now Zheng, 47, chief of surgery at Shanghai's Changhai Hospital, is a profiting from a fast-growing market. ``When Chinese people get money, the first thing they do is invite all their friends out to dinner,'' he said.

The girth of China's affluent classes is expanding as fast- food chains such as Kentucky Fried Chicken win converts. The number of obese people tripled to 90 million as the economy grew sevenfold from 1992 to 2006, the World Health Organization says.

Chinese aged from 35 to 64 are twice as likely as Americans to die of heart disease, according to the WHO. The number of diabetes sufferers may double to 42 million by 2030.

``The economy has grown so fast and the country has changed so much that people haven't been able to adapt,'' said Henk Bekedam, 48, the WHO's chief China representative in Beijing. ``Obesity is more of a threat than avian flu and much more difficult to treat.''

Looks like great fun tomorrow. Seems an easy short setup.....lol!! zzzzz, back to sleep.

I think Bush speaks tonight and reveals his new Iraq plan or whatever definition has been thrown in.
IMO, this is all about the oil and what is in it for HAL and the gang over the next few decades.
This should be a marketing moving evet IF there is any meat to the new plan and not just potatoes.

Whatever happens today is a prelude to the action thursday.

I cringe at the fact that our troops futures should be effected and what that entails.
If I was in the military I would immediately factor in statistics to figure out what my chances were and how to increase my odds.

Didn't Lincoln once begin a letter with something like, "Sorry this letter is so long, but I don't have enough time to be brief."
alceringa
Lincoln's address at Gettysburg was only 272 words long, but changed the course of American history.

Watch LFC at my target of 45. If it breaks that area then expect another clothesline. I will take a low risk gamble after the open Dorsett maneuvers. Hopefully it dives on the bell, if that happens then my stats on a bounce double for the bounce play....

If I was short LFC like I should have been, I would cover right now this instance and wouldn't even game the few extra pennies etc. to my target cover and flip long maneuver idea.
The massive trend line at 45 is extremely clear and is what the 45 "AREA" is all about.....I am in a hurry now and low on steam or would post the chart.....have a great day everyone.
Remember to seperate local Adr's from foreign exchange movements rather they correlate sometimes or not.....imo...

I would wait till opening shennanigans to happen first and then watch for the up trend low risk area and strike like lightning...

They seasonally adjust this crap. The two weeks at the end of the year are probably the slowest of all, and therefore subject to the largest adjustment. They're also adjusted for being 4 day weeks. I do not trust these numbers.

For what it's worth, they are virtually unchanged from the year ago numbers. Does that seem right based on the anecdotal evidence?

REgarding the mortgage aps. Just looking at the Realtors contract data for December 2005, unadjusted. It was the lowest level of the year, rock bottom. If the mortgage aps data is correct in that this year is about the same as last year, then they are the same as last year's lousy level, which is not what I would call a recovery. It's just a pause before the next leg down.
