Australian Consumer Prices Post First Drop in 8 Years

Jan. 24 (Bloomberg) -- Australia's consumer prices unexpectedly fell for the first time in almost eight years in the fourth quarter, driving down the nation's bond yields and currency as investors bet the central bank won't raise interest rates.

The consumer price index dropped 0.1 percent after gaining 0.9 percent in the third quarter, for an annual rate of 3.3 percent, the Bureau of Statistics said in Sydney today.

Good call on SUNW, Shorty. It's been my favorite tech since the SPARC and early Java days.

Up Up And Away
by Jimmy Webb

Would you like to ride in my beautiful balloon?
Would you like to glide in my beautiful balloon?
We could flat among the stars together, you and I.

For we can fly.
We can fly!
Up, up and away, my beautiful, my beautiful balloon!

The world's a nicer place in my beautiful balloon.
It wears a nicer face in my beautiful balloon.
We can sing a song and sail along the silver sky,

For we can fly.
We can fly!
Up, up and away, my beautiful, my beautiful balloon!

Suspended under a twilight canopy
We'll search the clouds for a star to guide us.
If by some chance you find yourself loving me,
We'll find a cloud to hide us, keep the moon beside us.

Love is waiting there in my beautiful ballon.
Way up in the air in my beautiful balloon.
If you'll hold my hand, we'll chase your dream across the sky,

For we can fly.
We can fly!
Up, up and away, my beautiful, my beautiful balloon!

In Citigroup Ouster,
A Battle Over Expenses

Falling Behind Rivals,
CEO Prince Confronts
Executive's Spending
By MONICA LANGLEY, CLINT RILEY and ROBIN SIDEL
January 24, 2007; Page A1

"Todd Thomson, chief of Citigroup's wealth-management unit, had used more than $5 million from his division's marketing budget to sponsor a new television program for the Sundance Channel, people familiar with the matter say. The program's hosts were slated to include Crapvision anchor Maria Bartiromo and actor Robert Redford."

"Inside the bank, Mr. Thomson's friendship with Ms. Bartiromo became an issue. When Mr. Druskin, then Citigroup's investment-banking chief, took his management team to a holiday dinner in 2005 at the ritzy Daniel restaurant, he spotted Mr. Thomson having dinner with the Crapvision anchor, according to people familiar with the situation. Word of the sighting spread through Citigroup the next day."

"In recent months, some Citigroup executives advised Mr. Thomson to reduce his contact with Ms. Bartiromo, a person familiar with the matter says. But he justified the outings as good for business because clients enjoyed access to the Crapvision anchor,"

Tension between Messrs. Prince and Thomson grew late last year. One flash point was a business trip in November. Mr. Thomson arranged for Ms. Bartiromo to speak to Citigroup's private-banking clients at luncheons in Hong Kong and Shanghai. Mr. Thomson flew with a group of Citigroup employees to Asia, but flew back to the U.S. on the corporate jet with Ms. Bartiromo (triple boo-yaa!!! laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif )"

I wasn't familiar with him Doc, but I goog'd him just to find out more. I think he'd probably have to tone down some of his prose to hang here though...

Actual useful content... Roger Wiegand says the silver cycle is leading the gold cycle by about a month this year....

QUOTE
.....

The point here is silver futures are faster and basically one month ahead of gold compared with last year’s performance.  Expect this cycle to occur once again as the open and close on  last week’s price bar was near the top of the trading range. This is quite bullish. Silver should easily find its 2006 high at $15.20 in May of 2007, on or before that date. If this high is achieved earlier in the current silver bull moves, we potentially could see $15.20, followed by a small correction and subsequent move to a new high of $18.38.  Should $15.20 be the spring high, we expect a higher high for silver in fall of 2007 at $18.38-$22.50 with primary resistance being $19.95.

We strongly suggest traders take positions they can stick with in the volatile times ahead.  Expect wider trading ranges.  Silver futures options and spreads along with junior and senior silver stocks should all have an excellent 2007.
