Looks like the Yahoo Orbs chart is not working so far. Trading is fairly brisk (for a Monday) although we're in a dip, -0.1%. There's only a couple of green sectors, Property Trusts, +0.3% and Financials +0.1%. In the reds, IT is down the most, -0.7% followed by Materials -0.6%.

Miners are mostly down: BHP -0.5% and RIO -1.1%. In the golds, Newcrest bouncing after the recent selloff, +1.5%, Newmont -0.9% and Lihir -0.3%.

The oils are up albeit with minor gains: Woodside +0.5% and Santos +0.6%.

It turned out to be a bit of a churn 'n burn day, buyers were keen but sellers kept on unloading. All Ords finished -0.2% with only three green sectors, viz Property Trusts +1.2%, Telecom +0.3% and Financials +0.1%. At the lower end, IT came in -1.3% followed by Energy and Consumer Discretionary, both -1.1%.

The mining sector somewhat murky: BHP +0.6%, RIO -0.4% and the golds finished down just over a percent with the exception of Newcrest, which is doing what looks like a dead cat, +2.1%.

Oils sagged: Woodside +0.3% and Santos -1.3%.

Nothing too exciting happening in Asia, relatively minor gains/losses on most bourses.

Over to UK/Europe:

U.K. House-Price Growth Reaches Most in Three Years

Jan. 29 (Bloomberg) -- U.K. house-price inflation reached the fastest pace in more than three years in January, led by London, as record bonuses for bankers blunted the effect of interest-rate increases, Hometrack Ltd. said.

The cost of a home in England and Wales rose an annual 6 percent, the biggest increase since July 2003, to an average 170,800 pounds ($335,000), according to a survey of 3,500 real- estate agents, the London-based property researcher said today. On the month, prices increased 0.4 percent.

London, which accounts for 17 percent of the U.K. economy, will have price gains of 7 percent this year, compared with 4 percent for the country as a whole, Donnell said.

Why are South African golds getting killed pre-market. AU is down $1.17, GFI is down $.83 and HMY is down $0.45. Has Robert Mugabe decided to annex SA and nationalize them. Non African golds show only moderate declines, so far

I second that. Can't see why any active trader would use anyone else. I also like Scottrade for my IRAs.

The high commissions?

My main reason for keeping an account is their streamer service. I have streamer services for Ameritrade and Etrade as they do go down and having a backup is nice.

BTW, sold my trading CEF this morning. No particular reason. 100% cash in the TP right now.

Maybe they are using the rumors to unload. I don't know.
There seems to be some legs to this run. No reason why it should be back to friday's highs again if there is nothing in the horizon.

Caution is needed...i'm sitting out.

When you say "streamer" I assume you mean streaming charts, because virtually all on line brokers have streaming quotes.

Nice thing about Quotetracker charts is that it can use the datafeed from any of a multitude of brokers. IB is weak on their streaming charts, but you can use Quotetracker with their data feed. I use eSignal for my charts. Not cheap, but a very solid reliable service with lots of indicators and a variety of interesting add ons.

Market is not going down.

Credit spreads won't widen either.

Not as long as the Yen remains in a freefall, emboldening the carry trade speculators.

I guess everyone is betting on a "crash" according to Mc"Huge" projections.

Or everyone is betting on a crash in bonds, and betting on a rate hike on Wed.

Put/Call Ratio is absolutely screaming today, for the 3rd day in a row.

Quite a little cat-and-mouse game being played on the fraudexes.

RUT been range-trading for almost three months. Similar pattern on the NDX except for the brief faux b'out.

Utilizing Pigman™ forensics, would seem that the first move out of this RUT "consolidation" would be a false move. Maybe even the second move.

As long as Rusty trades b/w 770-800, the market will likely be in shanky-cranky mode. Worth watching those levels. Equivalent levels on the NDX are 1745-1821ish. And 1389-1432 on the SPX.

Would be no surprise to see two-way action out of these ranges. Up, then down. Down, then up. Or some combo. Or even three-way action. Up, down, up. Down, up, down.

Fun times ahead.
