fxfox
got stopped out on that EUR/JPY trade. Flipped short, guess it goes up now. laugh.gif But when a 50 fibo and a uptrendline doesnt provide support..... normally it should go down more.

An all out sellerama today and possibly more than a few margin calls. Looking like a consolidation at the lows on the 5-day and if it is then it's down again tomorrow.

Financials took another nasty tumble, -4.9% with Property Trusts next, -4.6% (now back to 2004 levels) and Telecomms -4.5%. Healthcare had the least loss, -0.2%.

Miners got a (comparatively) light beating with the sector down 1.8%. BHP finished -2.5%, RIO -3.9% and in the golds, Newcrest +4%, Newmont -1.3% and Lihir -2.5%. Juniors down.

Oils down to varying degrees: Woodside -0.4%, Santos -3.1% and Caltex -5.7%.

Da bearz out in force in Asia: Nikkers -4.5%, India -3.8%, Singers -2.9% and Honkers -2.7%. China the only green, +2.1%.

Australia to Give Investors Tax Credits to Build Rental Houses

March 3 (Bloomberg) -- Australia will give investors tax incentives to build up to 100,000 new rental properties, double the amount previously promised, to make housing more affordable.

The Labor government will provide private investors with tax credits of A$6,000 ($5,599) a year for 10 years for new properties rented at 20 percent under the prevailing market level, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said in an e-mailed statement. He made the announcement today in Brisbane.

Rudd promised to set up a so-called National Rental Affordability Scheme and provide tax incentives for 50,000 new rental properties before winning power in November. Australian housing affordability deteriorated in the fourth quarter to the worst on record after the nation's central bank raised borrowing costs to an 11-year high.

Japan's Wages Rise 1%, Fastest Pace in 19 Months

March 3 (Bloomberg) -- Japan's wages rose at the fastest pace in 19 months in January, a boost to consumers at a time when the economy's export-led expansion is set to slow.

Monthly wages, including overtime and bonuses, climbed 1 percent from a year earlier, the most since June 2006, the Labor Ministry said in Tokyo today. Bonuses gained 12.1 percent.

Household spending increased at the quickest pace in more than three years in January and the jobless rate stayed at 3.8 percent, reports showed last week.

Gold Beats Financial Assets as Investors Seek Haven

March 3 (Bloomberg) -- Gold, silver, platinum and palladium may be the best-performing financial assets this year as inflation and slowing growth erode the value of the world's major currencies, bonds and stocks.

Precious metals have risen at least twice as fast as the euro and yen in 2008 and returned six to 20 times as much as U.S. Treasuries. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index and all other major gauges of equities are down. Gold for immediate delivery reached an all-time high of $980.98 an ounce today, while silver on Feb. 29 was the most expensive since 1980.

`Ludicrously Complex' Bank Products Attacked by U.K. Lawmakers

March 3 (Bloomberg) -- British lawmakers, criticizing bankers and financial supervisors over their handling of the global credit crisis, warned investment banks to make their financial products more transparent or face extra regulation.

Lawmakers want to avoid ``detailed regulation,'' although such an approach may be needed unless banks address the ``problem of overly complex products,'' the House of Commons Treasury Committee said in a report today.

The panel is investigating how defaults on subprime mortgages in the U.S. rippled through the financial system after credit markets froze. The largest banks and securities firms have reported $163 billion in writedowns on holdings tied to subprime loans. In the U.K., Northern Rock Plc was forced into public ownership after finding itself unable to raise funds.

Financial firms may face at least $600 billion of losses as the credit squeeze batters banks, brokers and insurers, UBS AG analysts said in a report on Feb. 29.

That might pose a problem. Banks make money with the information asymmetry generated by such "complex" products. They call it "financial innovation". dry.gif

DAX is right on the 38% retracement (6650-6660) looks very vulnerable. should this one not hold, next minor (and last) lvl is 6548, before retesting 6400, but this time - without Mr. Kerviel- it might take a little more time...
fxfox
I guess Gold will see 1000 today, if ISM is bad.

That's a small drain. I don't freaking believe it, given what the Treasury had to settle today.

And look at all that Treasury collateral they took, and the stopout rate still jumped by 90 basis points. Told ya they were going to have a problem Monday!

This should be good for 500-600 points down on the Dow I figger. That's not an official projection, just a gut reaction to this data.

I'll have all the down and dirty coming up in the Wall Street Examiner Professional Edition Fed report a little later today.
