Full Version: Steve Elkington WITB from the 2007 Buick Open

easyyy
Steve Elkington has no formal equipment deal. However you can see the initials of "Don White" of MacGregor on the soles of his irons. Close to the smae iron Badds uses without a lot of leading edge grinds. Looks like Steve likes a sharp edge. Suited him fine last weekend.

Irons look great but that brown/white bag is ugly!

I love that bag!!

I think it's great when a pro has such a bad bag, it's brilliant!

Did you happen to see what woods Elk was using?

Great pics!

Last I saw he was using a Ping Rapture with Aldila VS and he alternates between a 2 iron and a Sonartec TRC 5 wood with X100. Not sure about the 3 wood though.

Great pics again easyyy.

Those Don White's are possibly the best looking irons i've ever seen in my life.
imsocrabby
easyyy, you never fail to amaze me with the smoking photos.

those irons are quite possibly the best i've seen.

and that bag....fine.....but those shoes.....gold.
dougie189
Not sure of my opinion, but whatever works.. Was just thinking about the bag and wondering, who was it on the PGA Tour who has stickers and badges all over their bag. I think they were sponsored by Titleist

I didnt, sorry. I will look the next time. He is amazing isnt he? While there are so many greats that have faded away he is still showing up on the top of the leader boards like last week. Still hard to look at him without the Titleist on the hat. How many years was he a staffer? Seems like forever.

Those blades look very sharp edges, nice to look at, not so nice to mis-hit! smile.gif
mr_divots
Wow. Any time the hosel of the iron is wider than the soles, I think I might be in trouble! rolleyes.gif
Love the bag and those leather "sacks" he's using as headcovers. I think Elk has the right idea. Look at the cool equipment he plays, and uses/gets whatever he wants. It's nice he's in a position to not need the tee-up money.

Ive always wanted blades with no logo's on them.

Dunno why.

They look so nice.

I love the Elk and everything about him and his game.

This bag just oozes class and simplicity, a real 'players' bag! Fantastic pics, thanks a million.

Just wondered what flat-stick is he using? I recall he always used an Anser, back in the day, is it a Scotty variant now?
addamsmith
Fantastic work easy
As alway's
I was told from a very very good source that the Elk may be back with Titleist soon if not Macgregor. We will see.

After looking at Buick pics part 1 there is a photo of Elk's bag and it has the Anser in there, not an older one though.

He's been using an Anser G2 with a big slab of lead tape in the cavity.

great photos, thanks easyy. these in hand threads are the best.

beautiful looking set of irons. Just no unnecessary gimmicks.

hey i got a questions....

it's not on topic but it's regarding FJ.

Any people in the biz out there.....why doesn't FJ offer classics in women's sizes? Ala Lorena Ochoa's shoes. The smallest they make in the Classics is a 7.....and I know her feet aren't that big....so what's up?

I was thinking the same thing while I was at Riviera (Nissan Open) this year. How does he not a deal??? Is he wanting too much money? Elk is such a cool guy and would be a great asset to any company.
Corsair
Love it, no logos in sight. He obviously plays the equipment he wants to play. . . Jim Rome pegs Elk as the BEST interview in sports, he really must be a cool character.

He doesn't want one. I talked w/ him the during the Pro-Am at the Stanford St. Jude in Memphis. He said "I don't believe any one company makes 14 good ones, and I don't want to be locked inot a contract so I use MacGregor irons, Titleist wedges, Callaway fairway woods, and a Ping Driver and Putter."

He also had those same shoes on that day. Footjoy Classics.

He let a Junior I was with walk and talk with him between a few holes. He was by far and away one of the coolest guys I've ever met.
CGB
Listening to Elk's interviews on Jim Rome are always amazing. Best guy ever.

His story about John Daly wrestling those guys from S. Africa is classic.
HITMAN67
Hi avg_joseph,

Did you happen to see which model of Callway F/wood & Ping putter he
was using?

UPS should sponsor him. Just throw a UPS logo on that brown bag, "What can brown do for you?". It would be a perfect fit...

My friend Drew has a wierd man-crush on Elk. I've played with him a few times, he's good peeps.

Those look like a very old MacGregor club to me. Back when Nicklaus played them. Classics

Great pics....nice looking sticks in a VERY VERY ugly golf bag!
InspiredGolf
Did anyone of you hear Elk on the Jim Rome show yesterday. That Elk is classic. The rubber donger story had me cracking up!!!
CGB
The rubber donger story was so good. So was the one about Adam Dunn humping a pole off of 16 at the FBR.

Nothing will beat his John Daly story about wrestling those rugby players in South Africa he told a few years back though.
