These are the first looks of Titleist new line for 2008. Adam Scott had them in the bag today at the Barclays Singapore Open. Thank you to our own InTheHole "Chris" for the Pics.
This is what Chris said about the irons in his original Barclays Open thread...

Then as mentioned there was a rain delay and I made my way back to the hospitality pavillon and right there in front of me is Adam's caddy and his bag. I sat down next to him and I asked if I could look at Adam's bag (politeness is the best policy with me). Man got to see the new ZM Blades from Titleist. Seems that these are the first few sets out from the tour van. I guess just as I start to drool, Adam comes by and indicates that he wants to head our to loosen up again.

Now why is it every time I get comfortable with a set of irons something ELSE has to come out and peak my interest?
I'm such a ho.

will they be called ZM forged or will they be like all the titty irons and have some sort of numbers.

That's a good question...we could be looking at the first irons from Titleist in a LONG time with actual names and not numbers.
And wouldn't the cavitly backs be the "ZC Forged"?

Just a quick observation, with more weight towards the toe as indicated by the muscle design won't most players be leaving the face open at impact?

Those are pretty sweet. But I think I'll stick with mine. They look a kinda strange with the sharp double z-cut and the modern numbering. Mine will suffice

I would like to see them in person first, because from the pics they look almost identical to the 695mb/cb. Hopefully when we do get to see them in person there will be a more pronounced difference and if wont just be the 695 series re-stamped.

Good point about the toe being open. Certainly looks like it could happen, but maybe even though there is more weight out on the toe there maybe also be more mass at the heel as well. I am interested in seing some pics at setup and of the faces.
Great find though, thanks!

I'm not to fond of the look of those. The word "gimmicky" comes to mind.
(Not that I'm good enough to play blades anyway.)

They also look more squared off on the toe. It seems like EVERYONE these days is making a really round toe, especially Mizuno, and I REALLY prefer a more squared iron, like the old school blades.

Shame these new Z-Forged have to replace such a beautiful looking iron in the 695's. Just too over the top to me along the lines of the new Callaway blades.
Need to see more companies go newer technology without sacrificing class and simplicity.

The weight towards the toe is meant to counterbalance the weight in the hosel to shift the CG more towards the exact middle of the clubface. By adding a little more mass towards the toe, it also increases the MOI on toed hits to minimize the effects of a mishit. Its still ugly though.

other than stamping, what is changing from the 695's
these look like basically the same club, just one extra cut that looks like it makes a neglible difference if any in performance.
imo the 695mb's were fine but i guess even titleist has to release new clubs every year now the way the market is.

They look ok, but I don't see many people switching from the 695's. I know if I had the 695's I wouldn't switch. I also can't imagine there being much benefit to the muscle shape.

wanna see how they look at adress to !

Nov 2 2007, 02:15 PM
They look like a 695mb 660 combo. The difference is that the muscle looks to be higher up and towards the toe. And the shape of the muscle looks concave in nature, a la the 660s.

I am a huge Titleist fan and was really hoping for something more classic looking with a very mild touch of modern pizazz, but those are over the top ugly. They make the current 695MB look great. I guess I see what they're doing from a marketing point though. I really don't like the double step z pattern... very cheesy. And cheesy does not work for Titleist... maybe Tayormade or Callaway, but not titty. Got to keep the general public looking rather than make the same old thing. maybe they'll make more new blades this spring.
There are so few old school looking blades on the market next season someone has to step up and take the market.... c'mon titty!

If you look closely in the 2nd to last pic you can see that the 2 Iron is a CB. It looks like it has the same lettering as the rest.

For me, it all comes down to the offset. The only tiny thing that bothers me at all about my 695's is the small amount of offset compared to the none in my old TM blades.
If they have less offset than my 695mb's, I'm sold. If not, I won't change.

I was thinking the same thing. They don't venture far enough from the current design. I think only real equipment buffs would be able to tell the difference from anything more than a glance.
It looks like the sweetspot will be near the heel of the club?

Those are hideous, disgusting, horrendous, pitiful, and just downright wrong...
Well, not that bad, but I must say that ever since Titleist dropped the 600 line (690MB, 680, 670...), I haven't liked any of their irons. They just need to make something simple and effective. I'll stick with my 33's thank you very much.

I think I should make a sidenote about what someone brought this up in an earlier post and I think this could be a HIGHLY over looked feature of these clubs. If infact titleist has bulked up the toe weight to help more the weight away from the hosel, then they deserve a HUGE pat on the back and I can tell you that personaly I will absolutely be putting these in my bag. With todays blades, and players cavities, if you order a set and ask for a heavier swing wieght (most irons come standard at about D0-D2) the load up the hosel with the heavier weights, only the tour pro's get the heavier Clubheads. What most people dont realize is the affect this has on the sweet spot and how shifting the mass towards the heel impacts the way the clubs play. Companies like KZG and Ping have nailed it, Ping just changes out the cartriges in the back to change swing weight, and KZG hand grinds the club heads to your desired weight. I know from a personal experience that I have with Mizuno, I got a set of MP-67's and didnt ask for a specific swingweight and when I got them I thought they felt light, and they sure were! They were C8!!!!! Needless to say I tried to make some changes by adding tungsten powder down the shaft(because adding lead tape is the ugliest thing you can do to a golf club) Well this shifted the sweetspot so close to the hosel that shots hit in the center of the club flew like I had hit it off the toe. Anyway I wrote all that to make my point that if titleist has made this with the idea in mind that adding mass to the toe to blance the club and keep the sweet spot in the center of the club they might sell more than we think. The concept is great!

Kinda strange??? that thing is just plain a** ugly
They took the vague Z-shape of the 695MB and made it into a more precise, clear-cut Z. interesting... if Zorro played golf, this would be his iron of choice.
I assume the cavity back Z is the players forged iron in the '08 lineup, with a cast cavity back also on its way?

InTheHole "Chris", nice find...I'm not particularly a Titleist fan but I do like the "square toe" and the "straight top line",and it's possible that I could get used to them with these features.

It'll be fun to try them out once they become available to we mere mortals.
