Does anybody know what Lefty was using at AT&T Pebble Beach last weekend? I saw him hitting a Hybrid, was that the X Hybrid or FT-Hybrid?
Also, is he still playing the X-Tour irons?
Full Bag info will even be better.... thanks.

I don't think so at all......he loves that shaft and feels that it works best for him in those clubs....

Feb 13 2007, 08:13 AM
It's not how hard or fast he swings as much as it's how much he loads the shafts. In short, his downswing is very closed to his body and narrow which forces him to load the shaft a lot. This requires a much stiffer flex, among other things. PX 7.0's are like steel pipes.

I have never heard of that.

I believe "flamed" is when the head is heated with a butane torch to almost blue the metal.

I think its funny that Graphite Design makes a shaft especially for him, than he dumps it and uses the Diamana.

I would bet his irons may be longer than standard though, thus reducing the flex a some. I know my 6.5's are really stiff at standard length. Stiffer than X100's. I can't imagine 7.0's.
I also doubt he uses a 73 gram in his hybrid. Thats really light!!

I play PX 7.0's and I play them slightly over length. In the shop they cycled out really high and I was a little worried but they play great. I have them in some LT's. Great feel and ballflight.

I called Royal Precision, when they still existed/before the TT buy out, and was told their shafts get stiffer as they lengthen. I thought this was counter intuitive, but I didn't want to second guess him or my clubfitter. Weird though...

hahaha, i stand corrected. i was thrown by the issue of golf digest in which he was using the x forged, so i though that he might be done with the x-tours, but when i saw the coverage, i was convinced they weren't the x tours, but they definitely weren't the x forged, so therefore i though the x20 tours were in the bag

there was one point when i remember looking at his bag and seeing 3 X hybrids or at least 3 hybrid head covers. idk if they make a hybrid 1 iron in that style, so that must mean he had 2, 3, and 4 hybrids... i'm not stating fact, its my guess...

Just a little update on Phil Mickelson's bag...
DRIVER - He is still using the FT-5 Tour but now with a Diamana Whiteboard. Not sure on the exact bend profile of the specific shaft he us using but the graphics are definately Whiteboard graphics.
3-WOOD - Phil has moved on to the new FT-Fairway which Callaway will debut this spring. He has a Whiteboard in this as well.
HYBRIDS - He is now using the new FT-Hybrids shafted with Blueboards.
IRONS - As discussed above, Phil is now using the Prototype Blade irons. Rumor has it that Callaway WILL, eventually, release these to the public but obviously in a modified form. Expect an announcement concerning these this Spring, with a possible release sometime this summer or fall.
WEDGES - He's now using the new X-Forged wedges.
BALL - Phil was still using the HX Tour at the HSBC since the new ix had not been approved for tournament play. I believe it is now.

I don't ever renember Phil having a steel shaft in his driver, Tiger used a DG x100 until about 3 years ago and he has been using graphite ever since. He was using a Bi Matrix shaft, graphite with a steel tip, approx 2 years ago. Ever since Tiger started rebuilding his swing, and came out of his "slump" I am pretty sure he has used graphite in his driver and fairway woods.
